just read this from the twitter feed for this fire. Also read they found 30 horses burned to death, this area is full of horse lovers. Made me cry.

My brother is in Northridge now so awaiting news from him. He did text a photo of the smoke from where he is, pretty bad.

Update from link: The Creek Fire ripping through Sylmar has prompted as many as 150,000 evacuations along a big swath of the San Fernando Valley, mostly north of the 210 freeway.

Fanned by wicked winds, the fire has charred at least 11,000 acres since breaking out Tuesday morning. There are reports that it has damaged or destroyed at least 30 homes.

The number of areas evacuated because of the Creek Fire expanded throughout the day on Tuesday, and a new map (below) shared by the Los Angeles Fire Department shows just how many neighborhoods are affected. It’s being updated in real-time.

fire on both sides of hwy 101 according to Caltrans. Twitter feed is at the link for latest closures.

I was looking for any youtube videos with today's news. Couldn't find any but did see a video of the 30 horses killed. They were all locked in their stalls so nobody could get any of them out. I can't "unsee" the dead horse in that stall. Someone should have turned them loose!

yeah, 101 keeps getting opened...then closed,then one
lane...then a different lane, then only escorted...then
closed again...

seriously, just don't go 101 today. Pot luck on what
you'll get when you get there.

been on twitter feed for Skirball fire, etc., everybody says they just got an emergency text message that scared the heck out of many folks. Apparently it was sent to everybody in LA county, Santa Barbara, etc. Winds expected to reach up to 80 miles per hour and Ventura fire folks say there's no way to fight any fire with those conditions! Huge prayers for relief from these horrid monster fires. Off to bed.

Subject: "Extreme Fire Danger Through Saturday" Natl. weather service

URL: http://www.weather.gov/lox/

guess this kind of says it all so pray no more fires start and the airplanes can have a bit of time for their drops.

The strongest and longest duration Santa Ana wind event we have seen so far this season will continue through at least Saturday. The strongest winds during this event will occur today, and again late tonight into Thursday. During these times, damaging wind gusts of 50 to 70 mph will be common across wind prone areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, with isolated gusts as high as 80 mph in the mountains. The Santa Ana winds combined with humidities in the teens and single digits, along with very dry fuels, will bring an extended period of critical fire weather conditions to much of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. If fire ignitions occur, there is a high likelihood of very rapid fire spread, long range spotting, and extreme fire behavior. Other potential impacts included downed trees and power lines, blowing dust and debris, and power outages, especially today and Thursday.

I did grow up in So. Cal. got out of there as fast as we could with 3 little children back in the late 60s.

Used to be a garden of Eden back then, so green, lush and fertile. A collection of smaller towns that grew into the megalopolis it is now.

My heart stopped when I heard about the 30 horses found burned to death, wondering what they'll find after fires subside. I did read that the Thomas fire in Ventura was advancing at the rate of 1 football field per second!!! No animal could outrun that. :(

sheila, it's like a deja vu all over again, all the drama that took place in nor cali just recently...

isn't this kind of late in the season for these wildfires ??

it's been so sunny and mild in the Bay Area, -is there another drought season on the way...

I feel for all the people and the animals in southern cali right now, -the birds can always fly away, the horses etc...cannot...it's very tragic...

Thanks Sheila... can see a good header blooming over
the mountains to the south west today. And, there is
bad news...while the winds have died down for the
moment, they are expected to return tonight through
Friday and be even worse than they were on Monday.

Had a dentist appt this morning, and on the way home
was listening to news radio out of L.A. area. They
said every single first responder is either on duty,
or on call right now.

I did find the LA NWS twitter feed that has a gif of where the smoke will be as well as a lot of other vital info on winds, etc.
This is just heartbreaking on so many levels for me, so much history in these areas. My long departed aunt used to have a beautiful home in Tarzana not too far from the Creek fire. I'm praying for all these folks in harm's way as well as all the wildlife and people's pets, horses, livestock, birds, etc.

Sure wish we still had access to the firefighter's forum on "wildlandfires.org"!

sad, that was such a good site for information.
