that's the latest news for this iconic observatory in Los Angeles. You can see the fire in the lower right corner of the cam view which updates every 2 minutes at the link.

Not AGAIN! I remember when fire grew to the ridge and threatened the observatory. Something is attacking our mountain ridges in California, sheesh. Hope it's not zealous arsonists, the b*trds. Five years of drought and one season of flooding rain is not a good thing either.

I think that was 2009? I remember it too and it was a larger blaze than this one but they didn't have that massive 747 airplane to fight fires then. I think Ca. just signed the contract with the 747 owners this July, just in the nick of time to at least control fires near or in the cities.

There's so many invasive species of weeds growing everywhere now, one wet season in 5 years makes them all sprout and grow. I'd bet it was an arsonist this time though, think it might have been last time too.
Homeless folks start fires to keep warm? Oh my, what to do about that problem.

They just arrested a homeless man in Sonoma town who started a fire near the town just to keep warm. That after they saved the town from the other fires!

The homeless guy was being reported as starting the big fires. Nixle sent out an alert that that was not the case- :) Good point about one wet season in 5 years of drought. What if the 'rat whisperer' was right, that we're going to have another huge wet season!? Next year may be worse for fires, yikes. Good thing for those big jets helping- :)
