I could smell the smoke this morning, -it must be the new fires...I hope they can contain this one... difficult terrain once again...

Just sent my daughter an email. She lives in Boulder Creek. Luckily, she lives on the south side of town. the Fire's on Bear Creek Rd. closer to the summit (from reports and news) than to town. This is my old stomping grounds and I'm sad to hear this beautiful area is under threat from the fire (named the "Bear Fire").
According to the news so far, from a couple hrs ago, about 130 acres, 4 houses gone, five firefighters injured (mostly from falling in steep terrain) and 150 homes evacuated.

Redhart, I did recall you've mentioned your daughter lives in that area....I know that area well too...
a friend is a firefighter out there... it's stunning re these wild fires, every day it seems a new area pops up...luckily the temps are cooler and hopefully the rain really arrives on thurs...
and today of course is the anniversary of the Loma Prieta equake...
for the firefighters out there these steep terrain fires are so tough to fight...

I got in touch with my daughter, and she's fine (on the other side of town miles from the current fire on the north side). She said the winds were calm so they were hoping to get it under control fairly quickly with the daylight.
And yes, it IS the anniversary of the Loma Prieta quake. I was thinking about that earlier. I lived in Boulder Creek when the quake happened, and was at my job in Scott's Valley (about 3 mi as crow flies from epicenter) when the quake hit. There's not an October 17th that passes that I don't stop and remember that day. It was one of those events that you time mark in your life (things that happened before the quake, and things that happened after).

Even the newscasters were telling where they were that day, today, yeah. I was at Aquatic Park at a job, with everyone almost gone, except a temporary guy who kept me from running out into the streets with my hair on fire. The brick-faced building went up and down hard, twice. The temp kept telling me, it's slowing down it's slowing down, don't go out yet. He knew I was starting to panic.

update: 271 acres, 10% contained (5 ff injured/4 homes destroyed).
they are letting the fire burn to a place where equipment and men can safely get to. Very steep and they don't want to risk more injuries...just protecting homes right now.
winds have been calm, conditions favor firefighters.

News guys are saying if the rain is too light then the planes can't fly. So, we need BIG RAIN or else the fires will grow during a 'sprinkle'.
Anyone in touch with the thunder beings, have a talk with them, will ya- ;)
