new evacs being called in Santa Rosa as winds kick back
up and re-threaten populated areas. (per CNN live
broadcast)

They had live video of the fires heading back in toward
a subdivision...lots of fire fighters and flashing
lights toward the perimeter getting ready to fight this
next wave.

been watching all the fire activity through multiple sites, flighttrader shows several DC10s fighting fires E of Santa Rosa, one of them over the town of Sonoma. In that town, the fire has pushed within blocks of it, a couple of homes burned so praying it stops there. They tweeted that winds have died down.
This is gut wrenching for me as we went to that town every chance we got in the old days.
At the link are many before/after photos of areas in Santa Rosa that burned.

Now comes the real heart ache, seeing all the injured kitties, dogs that have been found. Mostly injured paws carefully bandaged up by vets who are taking care of them as they come in.

My memories of old California as we knew it are fast going up in flames, and am getting a huge dose of disaster fatigue!

I could not smell the smoke the early am hours but around 6-7am the smoke was back so strong...
I cannot even imagine how the air quality is right there...people here are walking around with face masks on, the young and old...never seen that before...

Here's a fresh article:

Thousands of new evacuations were ordered Saturday in
Santa Rosa and the town of Sonoma as strong winds blew
flames toward neighborhoods that had so far escaped
the wildfires that have killed 35 people and destroyed
5,700 structures in the Wine Country and beyond.
Several homes burned just east of the historic town
square in Sonoma.

An estimated 3,000 residents of east Santa Rosa and at
least 250 people in Sonoma were ordered out before
dawn as flames from the Nuns Fire bore down on their
homes. The fire, which has burned 46,104 acres since
breaking out Sunday, was being pushed by winds out of
the northeast at 20 mph that are expected to continue
into the afternoon.

Fire crews were “extremely concerned about” the
evacuated areas along Highway 12 and in the
northeastern part of Sonoma, said Jonathan Cox, a Cal
Fire battalion chief. Fires were burning “near and
around structures” in both spots, he said.

The gusty conditions sprung up at 3 a.m. as the Nuns
Fire moved from the northeast to the southwest,
prompting all available firefighters to head for the
Wood Valley Road and Lovall Road area to protect
structures.
