First, this from a latest twitter feed:

Tubbs Fire: 25% contained
Atlas Fire: 27% contained
Patrick Fire: 18% contained
Pressley Fire: 10% contained
Pocket Fire: 5% contained

Also, news feeds saying a lot about what may have caused the fires to start in the beginning: PG&E power lines fell during the high winds in the middle of the night early Sunday morning. They might be held responsible for the entire cost of these fires if that turns out to be true. Their stocks are tumbling as a result of this news.

Mercury News as of 7:30am update
SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — The Latest on California wildfires (all times local):

7:20 a.m.

Firefighters gained some ground on a blaze burning in the heart of California’s wine country but face another tough day ahead with low humidity and high winds expected to return.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman Scott McLean says a blaze burning in Sonoma and Napa counties is 22 percent contained Friday.

Thousands of firefighters are battling 21 wildfires spanning more than 300 square miles (777 square kilometers) and more crews are pouring in to help.

McLean tells Oakland television station KTVU that the blazes grew little overnight thanks to favorable weather but warns gusty winds and higher temperatures are forecast Friday.

Since igniting Sunday in spots across eight counties, the blazes have killed 31 people and destroyed at least 3,500 homes and businesses.

hi sheila, I've yet to hear from friends in Santa Rosa and Geyserville...I just hope they are all ok...

the fire chief in Geyserville said he has never seen anything like these fires, they finally got the planes out there to fight the fires..

the winds are calm right now, though will kick up again over the weekend...I've seen people walking around with the face masks, early am the smoke smell was really heavy..

my sister in the central Ca. coast says it's really bad there too. Somewhere I saw a website and/or phone number where you could check to see if friends, relatives are ok. Will try to refind it.
There's never been a fire like this burning 70,000 fires in the 1st 11 hours! Now it's up to nearly 140,000 acres, worst in Ca. history. Last I heard they repaired 66 of the 70 cell phone towers in Sonoma county so you might be able to contact them if their cells are charged.

Smoke is kinda nasty here, too. It's blowing right
down the Central valley and piling up around
Bakersfield and the Tehachapi mountains.

Hoping they make good headway while the winds are
calm.

Yeah, downed lines and simply "arcing" lines as they
smack together creating sparks. This is a common
cause during windy conditions. That doesn't mean
some idiot didn't jump in and add to it for some of
these fires, though. Also, "Arson" covers wide
causes meaning simply "human caused". It could be
unintentional, or intentional. Like a guy who hits
rocks with a mower and inadvertently starts a fire
with the sparks..

Whatever the cause, it's all tragic.

I'm glad to hear they're making headway. They have
to be trying to make as much progress as they can
right now as winds are expected to return (up to
60mph gusts) tonight and tomorrow.

Keeping my fingers crossed for all of them.

Subject: Saturday the winds return: Gusts 40 to 50 mph!

Hoping they make massive gains on controlling these fires today because tomorrow looks to be really bad. Most fire activity according to maps this am show active fires to the east of what's already burned but NE winds will drive these fires west, south west.

Wildfiretoday
Oct 13

The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings in California and Colorado.

North of San Francisco enhanced fire weather conditions will return Friday night and Saturday with 20 to 30 mph northeast winds gusting at 40 to 50 mph. Isolated gusts up to 60 are possible on the highest ridges and peaks. The humidity will be in the teens during the day and between 25 and 35 percent at night.

The map was current as of 11 a.m. MDT on Friday. Red Flag Warnings can change throughout the day as the National Weather Service offices around the country update and revise their forecasts.

Let's pray those winds way down!!
