been on this story all morning long, I'm exhausted from just reading the stories, seeing all the terrible destruction of areas we once loved to visit.
Updates at the link and prayers for all.

EPIC EARTHQUAKE.

sheila, I cannot imagine how traumatized those people, the animals and the very nature are...

there's zero visibility looking towards the North Bay, luckily it's much cooler than it's been these past few days...

yesterday I saw some footage of a place where they were sheltering some pets and also livestock...
there were horses and chickens and goats ...

still people are SO stoic when faced with such crisis...
the elder couple that perished, their son said he was grateful at least they passed on together, they were close to hundred years old, married for over seventy years...

the real estate, the rents in the Bay Area are sky high, where will all the ones who lost their homes find housing, people have lost businesses and obviously then the jobs as well...

rain is in order and pronto...

yes, I read about that elderly couple, and agree that at least they passed on together. Tonight I was watching the weather channel which had a lot of realtime news about the fire. Looks like it did spread to Glen Ellen as homes were burning there, still can't find a decent "perimeter" map of these fires. There were several good ones that updated quickly during the Cobb fire a couple of year ago, still searching.

That these folks are "stoic" probably means they are in a state of total shock similar to what the folks in Las Vegas went through. When things happen that suddenly, nature's defense seems to be to put humans in a state of shock for a time then when the reality hits, that's when they need help with PTSD.

The animals! Oh how my heart bleeds for them but they did manage to save a fair amount of horses, etc. but doubt farm animals like cows made it through in many cases.

I'm hoping most of these folks had homeowner's insurance and it would pay for any interim housing, not sure about that though, sure hope so what with sky high rental prices in the whole area.

I sure don't see any rain in forecasts but miracles do happen!
Take care, Sheila

hi sheila, -yes, your correct about the people when they appear " stoic", they are in a state of shock...

I remember last year when my best friend's only child was killed in the Bastille Day terror attack in Nice France, they flew out there hoping to find their son alive in one of the hospitals, sadly he was dead...

they too were very stoic and after a few weeks the reality hit hard, -the emotional trauma never goes away.....

about the animals, I grieve for them too, how could the animals escape these fires that are moving so fast ??

I wonder what's taking place in the Caribbean after the hurricanes, -the coverage just disappeared and it seems those areas are just forgotten ??

I have zero interest about some Weinstein sex scandals when people are truly suffering all over...
it's wasted energy yet all the news seem to be focusing on him, I find it bizarre....

on a lighter note, I've observed so many beautiful hummingbirds and even butterflies lately, and of course the wild parrots, they are beyond funny, the other day I thought two of them will land on my head lol..

they are small and love to chat the parrot talk...

I had a ringside seat for the 1989 Loma Prieta quake.
First three days, people cleaning up... stoic, shell
shocked, but really trying to help each other, even in
the stupor to sort of wrap head around what just
happened.

On the third day we watched three fist fights break
out at the gas station across the street.

Yeah, the anger will come when the shock wears off.

yes, nearly 3 years ago, my x daughter in law's sister was murdered by her x husband. We all knew and loved her, so we were all in shock until the reality of it all hit home. We are all really close and you are so right, the pain of losing a loved one in any situation never really leaves, it just morphs into an acceptance but these folks will need consoling for a long time.

Love hearing about those parrots, so wish we could have some here. Media hype on sensationalism is just garbage. At least the weather channel is giving a lot of news about the fires and also about what's happening in Puerto Rico though I too wonder about the status of the other islands. There's another hurricane forming in the Atlantic, sure hope it doesn't hit the Caribbean. What a season of disasters it's been!!

Just posted on earthwatches regarding the new
hurricane: Ophelia

Very weird.. they have the cone/direction of storm
heading north EAST, possibly hitting the Azores and
then IRELAND as a tropical storm.

Craziest thing I've ever seen.

Unless something drastic changes to it's odd steering
mechanism, it's looks like the US is very safe from
this one, but Great Britain (and France, Azores)
better keep a real close eye on this one..

Unfortunately, more bodies being found. Good time line
of today's events...more evacuations being called and
expanding into other areas like south St. Helena (and
others listed in article).

sfgate is doing a great job of keeping up with the news. I thought the Press Democrat in Santa Rosa would be a good place to find news but they must be short staffed so aren't reporting much like they did in the Cobb fire a couple of years ago. I wonder how Judith is doing and Petra too, not a peep out of either one of them so still hoping they are ok.

Silly me, I figured there should be maps way sooner than they were probably able to get them up, see where the fires actually are so this one is good, more user friendly than the ArcGIS map. It shows where the active fires are now as well as where they were in past 24-72 hours. Darned sad to see how much has already burned!

phew, found the "ArcGIS" map showing perimeters of all the fires. The legend tells you which ones are active in last hours, etc. Problem being they only update in the evening so don't know how fresh this is but will look tomorrow.
