Subject: woke up to ashes inside

I was up till 6am following the fires up in the wine country, the smoke from the fires in SF was so dense, ashes falling everywhere, very eerie scene....

over 1500 structures so far burned, and the fire is still going on...it's a beyond tragic scene...

it's such beautiful countryside..
someone who I know said it was eerie how the wind just
kicked up out of nowhere...

I was just up there about two weeks ago, the fall time is so special, -the beautiful trees gone up in flames, I hope many of the horses and other animals were saved...

yesterday the Blue Angels performed, it was a gorgeous
day...October in northern cali seems to be high alert time...

the firefighters were not even trying to save the structures, the focus was saving lives and evacuating the people...

so far 10 fire related deaths in Napa, Sonoma and in Mendocino, the number will most likely go up.....many of the firefighters lost their own homes...it literally looks like a war zone...

lots of animals have perished...it all just moved so fast...pets and farm animals...

luckily the temps are getting cooler, the wind kicked up again this afternoon, though a much cooler wind...
the skies are getting dark again....

The high winds we have had up here and I consider them
to be "Nazi" winds in ways, that is why Hitler took on the swastika as an symbol of his superiority. It mirrors the wind in all four directions. Hopi claim he stole it from them in WWII.I ran into two quantum physic's guys many many years ago in an different site, they mentioned to break an cycle... come in.. in an spiral (wind) formation and anything can be breached and discarded...destroyed. People here keep talking about the new "weather wars"...perhaps so.

found this photo of the hundreds of homes burned in Santa Rosa on twitter. Just horrid fires spreading so fast, they can't begin to keep up with them. Whole wineries, hotels, homes, farms burned. Doubt anyone had time to rescue horses, other animals. Folks barely got out to save their own lives.

we used to drive up there as it was such beautiful country, had picnics with the kids. #1 son was an avid reader of London's books. Press Democrat still giving timely updates about that whole area.
Beyond heartbreaking and the wind isn't supposed to stop until tomorrow.
Seeing the Anaheim fire on the weather channel, you could see how fierce that wind is down there now. Huge homes going up in flames.

Also, another 20,000 homes being evacuated in Santa Rosa, can't wrap my head around all of this!
All our old time favorite places are burning to the ground!

so heartbreaking I had a bit of a meltdown last night thinking of all the times we combed these beautiful areas for places to take our children for picnics, hiking, camping, etc. Springtime in the whole area is a paradise or at least it was back in the 70s. Probably pretty built up with subdivisions now.
Same goes for many parts of the Sierras. One of my cousins recently said that many of the lakes, areas we used to haunt are now burnt to the ground.

Oregon's Cascade mountains are suffering the same fate. A few days ago, I saw a news video of areas around Mt. Jefferson, Jeff park as we lovingly call it. Burned to a crisp! Fires burn so hot now, they burn all the organic matter in the top layers of the soils rendering them incapable of regenerating for many, many years.

I sure do hope Jack London park didn't burn, trying to check now but doubt anyone knows yet, so busy putting out fires, no time to report details. I'd always hoped to go back there to show my hubby who wasn't my hubby back in the day when the kids were young.
Hugs to you Marja!

friend was on 335 berry street. his apt overlooks the finger of the bay? that had a row of houseboats there. got up at five and looked at the city awake. when I left I drove i80 home right by those fires. I could see the vegetation was so dry but it was not windy then. sorry about so much loss and hope the winds die down soon. chas

no major fires in Kern county down here (lots of
spot fires broke out ...they jumped on them left and
right), but the amount of smoke here is pretty
incredible considering the major fires are a couple
hundred miles away.

Prayers still going out.. my heart hurts reading
about the lives lost this morning.

Kern has sent teams to the Tubbs fire to help out up
there.

Winds still brisk here in the southern sierras, but
not as bad as yesterday.

Redhart, -your area must be bone dry as well ??
this morning a layer of ashes again...it's so fine so it gets everywhere...

I just heard the winds will kick up again later this week....
it truly is so stunningly sad...
and october just started....

the firefighters with up to 30 years experience say they've never experienced anything like it...

the winds whipped up here too so suddenly..so am going to check on the status of the fires around us now too...they have been contained and died down but who knows now....haven't heard from my kids about smoke and ashes at their place yet...makes all of our hearts ache and worry about everyone and critters...hope you stay safe and prayers for everyone Marja!...

I wish that our govt people would wake up and smell the smoke and feel the danger so many have been facing and get busy hiring more and getting more facilities, and equipment, and more help for evacuees....I think everyone is over worked and pulled in too many directions now.....

hi kay, -so many disasters recently...it was surreal watching the Hilton Hotel burn down, there was no effort to even put the fire out since there was nothing the firefighters could do...

one reporter said he was the only person around that burning hotel all day, he too said it felt eerie and surreal...

equake yesterday too in the Alum Rock area...
very smoky this morning as well...
