Subject: Question: What Would You Do?

After watching the toll taken from the hurricane in Texas,... and what it will take to rebuild, the question comes to mind, would you rebuild it there was a better than average chance another terrible hurricane was to hit there again within 3 years time?

Of course we cannot predict, but this was sometimes referred to a s 500 and even 1,000 year event storm. Right now forests are tinder dry and fires are having their way. Many predict that the climate changes are only going to get worse. I do not know.

But, if my house had flooded to the roof top, my possessions destroyed, my vehicles trashed, and maybe, maybe fema will give some help to rebuild in the exact location... remember these people are still paying mortgages..
Would or should they take the risk and rebuild? It's one thing for a high rise commercial building who only lost the first floor.
But, for home owners, renters..
Is it playing Russian Roulette, rolling the dice and "hoping" it won't happen again in their lifetime.
What would you do? Rebuild and stay, or permanently get out of Dodge and head for high ground?

Probably a little of both to tell the truth. I wonder how they would do down there living in steel silo's
for housing..with deeply embedded steel girders in cement. Something they can park their car in and shut
an completely enclosed steel wall around it so water couldn't penetrate it. Just an thought.

"It's one thing for a high rise commercial building who only lost the first floor."

I immediately thought "I sure wouldn't go inside that building or any of its upper floors! The first floor is [at least part of] the foundation and if water has weakened it and/or the ground it stands on... I'll stand way far back and watch!"

Of course, I live in a high, dry part of the USA...

Houston! We have a problem!!!
first building permits were given with out any environmental concern.
if you owned property you can build what you want...it is not like that in CA.
first did you know Houston was built on a swamp, yes a swamp!
people in Texas do not like laws so buildings can be as poorly constructed as there are no building CODES!
as for Russian Roulette, rolling the dice.
WELL they already did that!
i do not know if you are watching TWC or your local news about "Irma' well.......repeat.
it may hit as it is and has been following the exact path Harvey took. I could see this several days ago but media like to spin things.
like tell you it is going NORTH!?!? really?
wishful thinking, don't know.
you are FEMA, it is your bucks covering them.both the government and FEMA are broke.
this is the why the congress needs to EXTEND credit to keep the scam going.

it is funny, as Obama wanted to cut the budget "$80 billion by getting the US out of Afghanistan and Iraq.
by the way that is $80 billion a MONTH!
and suddenly he is sending troops back there and now Trumpet is going to send even more.
this is just like Vietnam! a loosing war. those people in those countries do not want us there!
they want Freedom from American tyranny.
they want to rule themselves and not have a American puppet do it.

I already left Dodge, (CA before it sinks too.......)

I have family in San Antonio, and I am sure they felt some of the impact.
The building codes thing.. very interesting. A double edged sword. Building codes can be a money making rule, and yet, we see buildings crumble in 3rd world countries in the devastation aftermath of a quake. Building codes have surely saved Japan's mega cities.

If Irma manages to 'regroup' itself and work back havoc on Texas again.... I cannot imagine the long term effect. This is beyond belief, and I know there are a ton of folks who think Haarp is helping nature uptick. Question is, whose haarp is playing,... as many countries now have haarp stations. Who needs H-bombs, when weather wars could easily destroy an economy. Will Houston recover if Irma hits hard? Right now I'd think Puerto Rico and all those islands... might be hoping for a miracle about now. On the other board, someone wrote about it being a Cat 6 storm. hmmmm. Not good if that turns into a Cat 6.
