Did the Catholic Church burn William Tyndale at the stake? What crime did he commit?
"Yes they did. William was a scholar and eventually turned priest. At that time the Catholic church was very much opposed to the idea that commoners would be allowed to read the bible. He did not agree so he became the first translator to translate the complete Bible into the then modern English. The Catholic church resisted his efforts and eventually he fled England to settled over here in Antwerp. He continued his work and became the first person to utilize book printing to increase his output.
Many of his translated bibles were confiscated before they found their way into the hands of commoners. Eventually, an English bishop named Stokesley pursued and captured him in Antwerp. He was shortly imprisoned and eventually burned at the stake while being strangled at the same time (October 6, 1536). Catholics were so peaceful back then.
The effects of his work, however, could not be undone. Many people learned the truth that the bible teaches and he to me at least is considered to be a massive reason why we have the bible the way we have it today. God must have smiled on his zeal and love for his word and will surely reward him for his dedication to truth and justice in the godly way." https://www.quora.com/Did-the-Catholic-Church-burn-William-Tyndale-at- the-stake-What-crime-did-he-commit?share=1
