Love Rich Mullins' music. One of my favorite songwriters. I brought my big tabby cat home the day Rich Mullins died. His name as a kitten was Toonces which was cute for a kitten, and he did try to get up on the steering wheel and drive cars - but wasn't sure it would fit the huge tabby he turned out to be.
And so...he got names Mullins after Rich Mullins. Funny thing was, that cat was so reflective and pensive and intuitive. If a cat could have written songs, Mullins would have been the one.
I had never heard of him. I left the Christian scene some time ago- though I had heard of Amy Grant and her songs. I was busy following what Issu/Jesus/Issa/Yahshuah/Yesu was teaching me. And writing my own songs of praise and worship. In some ways we were allot alike in approach to following Jesus. So I just found the movie free on youboob last night and watched it, then watched the 50 min tribute to him today.
I was living in LA, S California the year he died. And was guided by the Spirit to leave L.A. and go north. And so eventually I did in Dec 1998. I had heard this song, Awesome God, but never heard of Rich Mullins. Now after all these years, I'm glad I never did. I have composed/written over 80 songs with my guitar and sung wherever I've traveled to and lived.
Maybe it was just the right time to hear his story now that I have lived to 67 years in the Lord. :D Thanks for sharing your Cat story and his naming.
here's a video of Rich playing the hammer dulcimer- never had heard of this before either- (the regular dulcimer, yes) supposedly he introduced this to us or, what is the history of this? Love this sound. And a great song. Anyway- I first taught myself the auto harp when I was 8.
