I read that passage of Ezekiel 8 when I first became a christian around 1960, and was reading the bible from beginning to end. Reading both OT and NT I had wondered how the Israelites could have such great heroes of the faith, but also very many of them sank to worshipping false gods to try to access demon occult powers – provoking God the creator to jealousy. This might be the main reason God sent the message of salvation in Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, while the Israelites have languished without Christ for 2000 years.
Jesus had said to his disciples at the Last Supper, prior to his being betrayed by one of the 12 disciples, Judas Iscariot: (John 14:6) 6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Israel’s religious leaders, the Pharisees and the Sadducees, could not believe that Jesus was part of the Godhead, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

there is also evidence that some tribes are actually that, lost tribes descended from Jacob who found their way to America
up until the nineteenth century, the Pawnee were ritually killing young virgins on hill tops in honor of Venus and "grove" is what got them expelled
And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Bethel. -- 2nd Kings 23:4
Ashera(h) = "groves (for idol worship)" a Babylonian (Astarte)-Canaanite goddess (of fortune and happiness), the supposed consort of Baal, her images. ash-ay-raw'; or אֲשֵׁירָה ʼăshęyrâh; from H833; happy; Asherah (or Astarte) a Phoenician goddess; also an image of the same:—grove.

I have great admiration for the Lakota, their culture and their tenacity, and being a minority I root for the underdog
