I swear, this man could sing a page out of any phone book
and when he was done there'd be tears on my face...

On the banks of the old Bandera where roams the barefoot
child
On Sunday go to meetin' shortcuts out along the high wire
lines down a dusty road
The hills there were bluebonnets like a printed cotton
gown
And summer rain falls down like honey sweet magnolia
blossoms grow and old men dance
Once we ran barefooted through a clover full of dew
Once we learned to play like lone Comanches running loose
What it made you feel like is a song
But what it feels like now is gone
I can hear the screen door slamming
Run a foot race to the creek
You can see clean to the bottom and deeper just depends
on how you look, maybe where you stand
Monkey vines and swimmin' holes lay just around the bend
The rope we used to swing on now hangs tattered in the
wind
What it made you feel like is a song
And what it feels like now is gone
What it made you feel like is a song

Yeah, there's something in that voice, that perspective, that love bathed in empathy and humility that makes a soul so attractive.. so able to reach beyond, around, through all the barriers.. and touch our hearts.

His whole gang, genre, when these guys gave us this..

Oh those old sweeties...grandfathers of a generation, for
sure, each in their own inimitable ways... ;)

That Willie though...right? ;)

oh, yeah ;)

I like the way.. in that vid.. Willie does the least to even pretend to play the
guitar.. but I really like their combined voices.. and the slice of our lives
their presence evokes.

But for sure.. Willie crossed a barrier.. and (from my perspective) is iconic
of something more expansive.. our 'tribe'?

Sorta the way Jerry held the door for those that had to go and wrestle with
becoming a life.. the family, work and all that.. to come back when they got
settled and the creative once again had the wherewithal to emerge..

I particularly like the Highwayman for the image.. the miracle in a single
drop of rain..
