I was lucky enough to have a very creative, progressive
psychology teacher sophomore year of high school. Mr.
Power. lol One day he brought a record player (w/pretty
good speakers) to class and asked us to simply listen to
a particular musical piece and write whatever came to us,
in whatever format, as we did so.
The piece was Atom Heart Mother.
I was in my mid-teens in that golden 70s era of music and
was just at the beginning of discovering it all, and it
was the first time I'd heard this. I can remember at some
point around halfway letting go of any effort toward
wording anything as per the assignment, and the next
thing I remembered was opening my eyes to silence and
seeing everyone staring at me...lol... Tears had soaked
my face and dripped down onto my teeshirt, and I felt
like I'd just been taken somewhere I'd always needed to
go...big goofy grin on my face that I couldn't lose... Of
course I turned bright red and everyone let me off the
hook as the period ended...
I looked over at Mr. Power and he just smiled at me.
I know I've listened to AHM many times since then but I
think w/many-ear chunks of time in between... Just came
across it again and took the dive, and it's occurring to
me to share it here for whatever reason, a breeze over my
shoulder...

Such a wonderful moment in our lives. I really love Fat Old Sun.. on the
other side of the album.. thx for the reminder.
