I need help with this. I was in a lecture hall with a
gallery of seats surrounding the floor. I was at a desk
with another person working on formulas related to
flight. Above us the seats were filled and JFK was in the
center. He was the age when first elected in 1946. He
stood and said, "Something new can be learned every time
a cigarette is lit". What the heck does that mean?

Normal folks think the act of lighting a cigarette is trivial, but scientists can find dozens of ways to study the process of heat transfer and what happens in the spark gap.

I don't know what your dream means, but I am reminded that in 1946. proximity fuses were receiving major attention from the. the brainiac designers at China Lake weapons test center. They learned something from each variation tested, even when the test was a failure.

"Thermal batteries originated during World War II when German scientist Georg Otto Erb developed the first practical cells using a salt mixture as an electrolyte. Erb developed batteries for military applications, including the V-1 flying bomb and the V-2 rocket, and artillery fuzing systems. None of these batteries entered field use during the war. Afterwards, Erb was interrogated by British intelligence. His work was reported in "The Theory and Practice of Thermal Cells". This information was subsequently passed on to the United States Ordnance Development Division of the National Bureau of Standards.[1] When the technology reached the United States in 1946, it was immediately applied to replacing the troublesome liquid-based systems that had previously been used to power artillery proximity fuzes. They were used for ordnance applications (e.g., proximity fuzes) since WWII and later in nuclear weapons. The same technology was studied by Argonne National Laboratories[2] and other researchers in the 1980s for use in electric vehicles.[3]"

Interesting. I was born at a military base in Utah after
WWII. It's now commonly referred to as 'Area 52'. As you
may know, many Nazi scientists were brought to SW United
States bases to continue their experiments. Nuclear,
chemical and biological tests occurred every day.

The first thing that came to mind for me is the sacredness of tobacco to
the Native American culture. And later in American culture.

Not sure about anything else in your dream, except to
suggest a space where there's many empty seats,
openings/opportunities for learning something...but I have
the sense that "every time a cigarette is lit" might be his
metaphor for saying something new can be learned, like,
however frequently someone lights up a cig, meaning very
frequently...? Just a thought.

I noticed the whites of Kennedy's eyes were accentuated
and his left eyelid drooped a bit.
