I have been waiting two years to tell of this experience and this morning I woke to do so. I don’t follow these teachings nor do I have any knowledge of the dates or purposes etc.
On October 15,2021 I traveled with my husband his niece (sister’s daughter) and her husband to the Payson forest area for the weekend of hiking and being in nature! That evening we had dinner out and we’re discussing all different topics. One topic was making Menudo at Christmas. My husband makes the best in the family and their family has always made it with the red sauce. Some make it white or clear and we were discussing the origins of it. I know, you are wondering what this has to do with anything? After dinner we went back to the old lodge we were staying at for the weekend that sat on a creek. My husband stayed in the lodges lobby playing checkers with his niece while her husband and I sat just outside the big lobby window around a campfire.
We were relaxing and talking and enjoying the smell of the wood smoke. I wondered at the type of wood they were using as it was not familiar to me. I told my nephew how when we lived in the mountains we used to get permits from the forestry and collect firewood for the winter. It used to cost $5.
Time went by and I looked through the window and saw they were still laughing and playing checkers. I closed my eyes and took another smell of the smoke. When I opened my eyes I saw two elderly Hispanic women coming up to us from the darkness. The first woman was limping and seemed in pain, walking with a stick, she had few teeth in her stern but smiling face. Her hair was a darker color than the woman behind her and short with curls.
The woman behind her had longer grey hair and wore glasses and a nice gentle smile. The older one(I assumed) with the walking stick asked if they may join us. I said of course, please sit down! The older one sat but the other woman remained standing behind the woman’s chair. The older one introduced herself as Mary and her younger sister was Martha. She looked directly at me and smiled knowing I made the connection. My nephew never spoke through out this encounter, which was strange because he is very adept at conversations!
Then out of nowhere she proceeded to tell how their brother who is a carpenter had just went out and collected a whole winters worth of wood for the winter for them and it only cost $15. Then she told me the wood that was burning was ironwood!!! She said they were from Sonora area and that she lived in the wilderness for 40 years, sleeping in a hammock between the trees. She also told me I would have enjoyed it too? She said she was too old for that now and lives in a small travel trailer which she enjoys but she is very afraid of lightening and the strong rains. As she is talking everything to me feels very surreal.
By now my niece comes out and says her uncle was heading to bed. She stands next to her husband and I introduced her to Mary and Martha. I told her they are from the Sonora area just like your family. Then out of the blue Mary says she doesn’t like red menudo, their family eats white and she loves it. My niece becomes a bit tense at this moment and talks to the lady’s for a few minutes. I stood to say my good nights. My niece kept moving as she was talking because the smoke kept following her. Mary tells my niece to go stand by me because my body doesn’t block the air flow ??? I laughed at that and she smiled again at me. Martha remained quiet the whole time just smiling and nodding her head.
I told the lady’s I was going to be heading in to sleep and it was so very nice to have met them and that I hoped they had a safe trip home. Mary stood then and said they should be going also. We watched them both disappear in the darkness as I waved goodbye.
My niece said, that was weird. I asked her what she meant and she said I don’t know but it was weird!
Lots and lots of otherworldly feelings I got with them. My niece felt it too and said they came to give me a message. I have never had anything like that happen before. And I don’t know what the message was to have been?! Any thoughts? Sorry it’s soooo long.

Wow, fascinating, sher... ;) I'm not that far from Payson, it's a beautiful area... Your story was of perfect length from my perspective, made the energies of what was happening there so easy to tap into...
Their names being Mary and Martha were, I'm sure, a lovely synchronous detail designed into your experience to offer a sense of ease to the flows amongst you...if not something more specific, which only you would be able to discern, I think... ;)
My experience of Native/Indigenous women (and men, for that matter) is that they dwell far more in a less linear context of thought and reality than white folk do...or perhaps a better way of saying that would be that they live with one foot in both worlds, so to speak... ;) Not to say they're not beautifully grounded in more 3D everyday time 'n space flows, to be able to relate to and interact w/those of us who live mostly within those parameters; just that they're equally comfortable and present within less linear/more expansive contexts of energetics/awareness...
That's the distinct impression I feel, when I tune into these sweeties...how they brought the naturally *altered state* they live within with them, into that room, to share...that they crossed your path to have the specific exchanges with you they did, some of it being *apparently* somewhat everyday-conversational, some leaving you wondering at this or that... It may always remain that way as years go by, as your memory frames it now -- or, at some point in the future, one or another phrase that was spoken may suddenly break open for you intuitively and, within a dance w/circumstances occurring then, offer you some unforeseeable important clue or insight for that time in your life...?
But bottom line of what I get is that the deeper Why for the whole event taking place exists on a spiritual/higher-energetic level of...oh, *exchange, blessing,* that you may not be able to "decode" in ways you'd most prefer, to be able to humanly translate the message right now, so to speak... If that makes sense? ;)
I've had so many incredible encounters with folk whose orientations to time and space just...run differently than most, often w/people who live offgrid and differently in many ways, either by indigenous tradition or by inner direction into communities choosing that lifestyle, and I've been very aware what deep blessings each of them have offered me... ;) I hope this helps! ;)
