Earlier today I remembered a moment in a dream last
night with a spinning turntable and the arm landing on a
record. Some of you may remember those devices. I sat
down this afternoon to watch "55 Steps" with Hilary
Swank and Helena Bohnam Carter. It's the true story of
Eleanor Riese and her attorney Colette Hughes and their
fight for the right of informed consent for mental
patients. One of the songs played on Eleanor's turntable
was this one. I heard it often as a child in the 1950's.

While I think that those put in institutions should
have fair trials before being shut in, I also think
that letting real mental cases off the hook has led to
a lot of dangerous behavior and societal problems such
as homelessness. Also, the so-called “medical
treatment or therapy” within institutions can be
disastrous in itself. What modern psychology refuses
to accept is the possibility of “possession” (they
claim it’s a chemical imbalance and call it bipolar or
schizophrenia) and that their therapy for possession is
still medieval, and sometimes includes mind control.
