posts show up on "recent posts" but not on the board
itself ... must be some kind of wake-up call not
working? I refresh and ... nothing ... no posts

From my experience the trick is to clear your cache.. which is a bit more than reloading a page..

A good thing to do in general. I clear my search history
every day. Sometimes more frequently.

(Yeah, I know it's all stored somewhere anyway, but the
harder that information is to access, the better, even if
it is mostly only Lolcats and decent puerh tea).

If the browser has an incognito / private mode, posting
here, then closing out entirely and opening things back
up will then show the updated page, too.
