Herr Bopp, More trolling on National. At some point Redhart's constant trolling and posting what the "armchair media analyst" lefty asshole at Mediabiasfactcheck has to be considered as trolling. In this case this is a news item being covered by all the media outlets so obviously Redhart isn't objecting to the news. I'm sure she doesn't like the news one bit, but it happened. You want to make the cesspool National board a better behaved forum stop the lefties trolling such as Redhart's constant trolling of any post she doesn't like by attacking the source based on an armchair idiot. the original post are not banned, only additional information is added about where the information is coming from. Ignore it, or take it into consideration as you want. adding information about the source can be valuable to some in deciding if they want to pursue it further, take the time to fact check it, or saving their time if they decide for themselves it's not worth it. It actually puts the decision back in the hands of the reader ... it makes a difference if an article comes from the NYT, Infowars or The Onion. fact checking a story also includes potential veracity of the source of a story. This does not seem like a controversial thing except if one does not want others to know where a source of an article comes from for a specific reason. And those people seem to be the ones complaining the loudest about having a source addressed. |

When I post those, I'm not even looking at the bias part, I'm just looking at the fact rating part. Others might care, but I'm more concerned with a source having a history of verifying their facts before publishing than whether it's left or right minded. That is my main concern...reliable facts. If someone posts a clearly right-wing site article, but it has a high fact record, you won't see a warning from me on it. I may reply and discuss the actual issue, but at least we'll be working on a good set of facts at the base of the issue. Good for you for checking. There's so much disinfo out there from so many different sources, it almost takes a program to understand the players these days. It used to not be that way--it used to be clear, now foreign entities and even subversive domestic ones, have whole farms of writers creating disinfo. The disinfo has become more sophisticated and harder to tell. there have been several times this week when I read a story and liked it, then went to check the source...or fact check it, and found it wasn't what it originally appeared (so did not bring it to this site to pass on). I do a lot of reading, and much of it never ends up here because it didn't pass muster (left, right or otherwise). |

the warnings give you a heads up when you might want to consider fact checking something instead of just swallowing it whole in the first place, then ending up with egg on your face later, finding out it was not exactly true..half fact, or from a troll farm. Something you do a lot to your own detriment. So.. it's like a "procede with this story at your own risk, and don't be surprised if it gets jumped on because it turns out not to be true" warning. no one's taking anything away from your article, just adding more information to regarding where it comes from. Challenging facts, or sources of facts, is part of information processing. There is also no rule that says I have to read everything you post..or others post, if I feel they aren't worth my time to fact check. Others are still free to do so. It seems much better than censorship and removing it...it puts the option back to the reader. Removing the warnings is like censorship though, removing additional information where something comes from or access to a source of information about the publishers of information. Again, the ones that complain about the additional source information the loudest seem to be the ones who most want sources to remain secret, or the nature of the sources distorted. not true and an over generalization. I have found that I agree with nearly everything he found. I like the fact the site documents their opinion with examples and citations. I like the back ground info on the sites. I certainly do not post a warning for everything from that site because: I only post warnings from that site if they get "mixed fact" rating or below I don't post warnings because a source is left or right bias...only if the "fact check" portion is bad. Some things aren't even listed on the site and I investigate myself. I use it as a starting point, not an end point. A warning doesn't stop or remove the posting...just ads additional information about where the posting is from. Readers are free to dive in, ignore or do their own checking from there. Posts that bopp actually removes usually is because they are on the wrong board...I've noticed he sometimes removes them because they are CT articles, not straight news. And still, he doesn't ban the material, just asks people move it to the proper board.. I will generally leave those typs of non- fact based boards alone as their criteria for posting is very different. There are posters on national who seem to purposely find the worst sources, so they get a lot more source scrutiney than others. I do check more often for those who consistently attempt to pass on bad sources as good information. But I also get yelled at regularly by Akira and others on the left if I warn that the source they used is not the greatest and question it. Posters like Chatillion and Karen seem to deliberately seek out and post well known bad sources, going out of their way to do so, just to troll the left (or me specifically). I could go back and forth with them, turn it into a messy long thread of tit for tats, or I can simply post a source rating/warning and move on sparing the national board that experience. One warning post, to me, is a lot better than a long series that floods everything else off the board.. this is my solution to it. It becomes "I'm moving on, here's why" and others can do what they want from there. Blindhog is...well blindhog, just a firehose of disinfo and propaganda without even following bopp's rules on at least posting links or sources of it. My tallies are my way of putting an arrow on that fact. There's nothing wrong with questioning a source, or posting additional information to share with all about sources of information. There are some posters here who seem to believe that their posts should be accepted without question and never challenged. They probably shouldn't be posting on a public multi-view board.. Fair game. And Ryan...well, I do skip some of his stuff. It's his board. Ownership does buy a little extra priviledge. Guilty on that...admittedly. My view is..this is his board. You'll have to fact check them yourself. Counterpunch is mixed and should be fact checked lol. they are not something I would probably bring to the board myself, albeit they are entertaining and often do have good points (along with some skewed or not so great ones). yeah, you are missing it I'm honestly attempting to post (or warn) against bad fact articles. I do take other things into consideration like CNN..read the whole thing: "We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to several failed fact checks by TV hosts. However, news reporting on the website tends to be properly sourced with minimal failed fact checks" I don't usually post video of their TV hosts, I sometimes will select an online article, although I know some here don't like CNN for whatever reasons, so will often attempt to find a secondary good source. And, I don't recall the last time I posted an msnbc post. And, one more time, challenging a source is not trolling. In fact, one of the reasons I started doing this is I was tired of the endless trolling threads over clearly bad info. Now I can just show the report that it's a bad source and move on. It actually cuts down trolling. |

Did you notice you didn’t address your own trolling? I’ve read the National board almost every day for over a dozen years. Followed Red when she was the toast of the board and both sides loved her. Everyone loved her humor. Loved her fairness. Until Obama. Then things became contentious. She chose to post honestly what she believed and some people didn’t like it. She didn’t put up with the BS lies and she also didn’t agree with everything Obama decided either. I respected that though I didn’t always agree ;) And through those years I’ve watched her meter stay on point through thick and thin. And yes, she has tended to confront either side. She researched, was thoughtful, clear and more patient than I at the time. Eventually it became redundant with a group of posters, their using the new alternative facts and conpiracy sites constantly (and now ). She has explained herself well and I’ve never thought she needed anyone to defend her. She can stand up for herself quite well :) I’ve only spoken up now because of the sudden gang up on her on the tech board. And the hypocrisy. Your approach was juvenile trolling at best which surprised me. Until this happened, you’ve kept your head above the water. Now this. This hadn’t been your best moment. I had a good many discussions with you years back about what you termed contrails (under another name, before my husband died.) I always thought of you fair and measured even though we discussed the topic from opposite corners. I respected that. But today I have lost respect and frankly because of the spirit with which you have chosen to confront Red, I now question much of what you have posted previously. one time response because I just wanted to let you know we don't kill them all. We had to kill two baby rattlers this week because they were imminent threat to my dog and to us in the dog yard in places where attempting to secure them live was too dangerous. We also did "wrangle" one live, secured in a large trash can and called "the snake guy" to humanely remove. These guys take the snakes to a university where they are developing antivenom and new vaccines for rattlesnake venom. They are well fed, and milked occasionally--and live a comfy life while benefitting medical research. Rattlers that don't come near the house are left alone to do..whatever rattlers do in the wild. We're going to be getting information about a new vaccine for dogs based on the specific species that live in our yard. I've asked for the specifics to see if our service dog might participate (I want to know how much testing, safety, etc before I commit my dog to a vaccine). Each species of rattler has slightly different venom. The current rattler vaccine available is based on diamond back rattlers--a close cousin of the Pacific rattler we have here and it works enough to help, but because of the differences, doesn't give "full" protection. Science...what a wonderful and exciting thing! I got a rattler in a bucket by my back door right now waiting to be picked up (he's not happy either lol). So..where am I going with this?? your view of what you think I care about and what I actually care about and do daily in life seems to be divergent...and your complaints have been properly set upon my priority list for today and filed (see: snake in bucket). |

...my experiences with them has been limited but pleasant, the most recent being a green "emerald" rattler that was passing through the Walker Lake Zen "gardens" a few months ago... ...one of the most beautiful snakes I've seen in the wild. I've been told they are "aggressive" but this one was quite the opposite. The area also has a large herd of Bighorn sheep that occasionally give motorists on Highway 95 a photo opportunity on their way down to the lake for grazing and drinking. |

We supposedly have some big horn sheep around here, but they are very scarce and I've never seen one in the wild in this area yet. I have seen antelope...usually on the east side of town around the windmills. My nephew, a wind generator technician, said there is one that follow the maintenance crews around when they are working. They've named him "Tony" lol. |

...the bighorn sheep here are becoming comfortable with the people in Walker Lake... ...the area is pretty open and locals receptive to their comings and goings. I watched a herd of young bucks vying for leadership "rights" go one on one up cottonwood canyon last year... quite a show. It's fascinating to watch how the male leaders move the herd in and out of various locations. Was at a friends house before he died last year when the older buck leading the herd actually came right up to him, then went back to the herd and brought them through his yard where he could see them better. We have a smaller herd of antelope closer in to Hawthorne and a very large herd of wild horses that lives on Army depot land on the south shore of Walker Lake. Walker Lake is at about 4,000 feet elevation, nearby Mt. Grant is over 11,000... ...makes for interesting weather and fascinating wildlife populations. |

Hi etc, Do you somehow have the impression that Redhart is trying to correct or point out bad information? Because that isn't what is happening. If she was fact checking bad info that would not be considered trolling. But incessantly and tediously pointing out what some guy with a website says about sources by only her political enemies is not even close to correcting misinformation. Red isn't correcting anything, she isn't looking at sources used by all posters on National and applying the same standard. She is using that guy's opinion website as a club against specific people regardless of what they posted being factually incorrect or misinformation. Big difference between trying to be helpful by pointing out bad information and trolling her political enemies with what some guy with a website says. Try dropping your bias for a minute and look at the situation. Or petition Mr Bopp to remove all the conservative posters. I have information Jim . I have been here as Red and others patiently and carefully went point by point with these sites and weeded out the lies they were promoting as truth. For years. It is the history here on this site. You jump in after three plus years in and make a judgment on today’s board. You were around then. You don’t remember? The other posters know how hard and how much time was spent on being objective and finding sources and origins of points. It was exhausting. But those posters purposefully choose those sites as their links for their own agenda and purpose. So each one of us here have taken a different approach to pointing out the lies and the process being used on National. When someone tries to have a real discussion there, bring an idea and hash it out with others, logically in the hopes to grow, it is quickly infused with name calling and demeaning attacks because they have the inability to hold up their own side. Such is life today. But that doesn’t mean giving up and letting lies take root and flourish. That is dangerous. |

Hi etc. Sure, I've been around since Bopp created this site and since the founding of this site people have posted questionable sources. It is a tradition I've never cared for but that is a fact. I'm also well aware of the cesspool that is the National board and you aren't going to improve other people's behavior by behaving badly. Trolling the shit out of your political opponents isn't going to make anything better. You don't get to choose their sources and posting what some guy's website says against a few select people over and over and over and over isn't going to make anything better. Hi Jim, CNN and MSNBC and other MSM have a more subtle approach towards sway and agenda. Blatant misdirection is easier to pinpoint and point out, yes? Many of MSM journalists and their boards actually make corrections and apologies when they get things wrong. More so than alternative news sites. Where money seems to be MSM agenda, the other sites want to change the pattern of thinking of their readers and viewers by using alternative facts, manipulation and many times propaganda. They take the same story that is on MSM and they insert those properties and they become weapons in a battle between truth and lies. And it does needed to be pointed out. Not once, but every time as the process is insidious and creates chaos and feeds into a false mindset, which is their goal as well. A good example is what has happened about this pandemic. First those alternative sources supported Trump in saying the virus was a hoax and not a danger. Then those sources encouraged that there was no need to wear masks or social distance isolate. They drove the message that our economy was more important than human lives. That certain people were expendable for the good of the nation. And now we pay for it. Those alternative facts, those lies. Because this pandemic, that has eased in countries that promoted the truth, is becoming full blown and uncontrollable in a country who did not treasure and protect truth and truthful reporting. There are other grievous examples coming. Truth matters. And pointing out mis-information is most prudent in these times. Tedious? Yes. But as people keep posting from those sites that are known to constantly twist truth, people must speak out. Red and others should be commended not criticized. We choose which side to stand. It reveals our character. And it matters to the character and path of our country as well. |

Yes, and it's only getting worse! Were it not for 'parental advisory' warnings, there would not be enough hours in a day to wade through all of the muck being passed as fact! There is a requirement of the reader, though, in that one must have a functioning BS meter innate, plus a reasonable code of intent inherent as a caring member of society, not out for revenge...or 'blood'! Interpretation has as much to do with the values one holds as the information sources one gravitates toward...it soothes the 'wild beast' within for a satisfying nod of approval. But, a gluttony of guilt remains, with no resolve but the TRUTH...FACT-BASED articles, researched and disseminated freely and without bias in reporting. I appreciate the heads-up, even when the alerting entity is (somewhat) shall-we-say, NAIVE? you're own language shows how biased you are, for instance, there are several reviewers on that site, not just one "douche bag"...and this site is used by universities and other institutions. Frankly, I agree with most of his rulings. A few make me cock my head, but it's an evolving site and type of site that hasn't been needed until the attack of troll farms pretending to be news and mass disinfo campaigns from foreign and domestic sources became epidemic. If you have a better source checker that rates the veracity of sources, please add it in. It is not my fault that the ones on this site who use the worst sources the most tend to be on the right side of the spectrum of politics...and into CT and psuedoscience. I've seen even some of that cut down-- you don't see as much blatant russian news sources showing up on the board, and less unsourced material in general...both left and right. I've already addressed the CNN rating in another post, so will leave it there. I do respect you Jim, I can't recall you using a bad source, and because of that--debates and discussions with you have always been exciting (rather than denigrating into a name calling thread, they actually go some where and inform). I wish all the conservatives on the board had your ethical approach. Keep in mind that 80% of those who read the board do not post on it. Many of those are new and may not understand why a WSJ conservative article might be better than a Breitbart one. You might, etc might...but there are others around here who honestly may not. |

What stands out is how you don't apply it to anyone you do agree with even when the very same website rates the source as biased and with factual problems. You use it as a tool in a selective way against people you disagree with over and over and over and over. This is a classic example of trolling. As far as the website, it is an amateur attempt and is most certainly not without its own bias. It was a one man show as recently as 2018, I'm not aware that he has expanded. And the universities that used this website in their research weren't confirming the validity of anything from that website. To be honest, I have been reading Red’s posts for years and have often seen her take the point of both right and left. She is an intelligent person who pays great detail to facts and information. I think Red sees the danger, as I do, in the constant posting (many times blatantly to dig at people) of sites that have been proven to be less than honest. We are at a tipping point Jim. Have you noticed? To pick this fight with Red instead of focusing on the dangers of a society being led by lies is a greater danger. Which comes first? The chicken or the egg? Focus on the posters who are promoting mis-information and there might be progress. And we might just save ourselves. |

I don't see adding additional information as "bad behavior". I find it much better than derrogatory comments and long threads of name calling without any real information. I do lose patience at times and drop a derogatory term--working on that. I'm not perfect. I tend to be rather blunt at times (okay a lot). I'd rather just leave a site review and that helps me cut back on that stuff too. For others, often the ones that object the loudest, that's what they come here for..the game is "poke the lib and get them to dance". They don't want information, they want to incite anger and troll. This shuts down that game. I don't suffer fools well...and this is one way I can point out the issues with a source in a non-personal way and move on in one post without it turning into a "thread war" and impart some actual information as well. |
