...let's be clear Ryan, you have every right to make
the rules and enforce them as you see fit.

The problems arise when you make rules that tend to
be vague enough that they seldom get enforced until
a "situation" develops and you start enforcing,
usually somewhat selectively, what you weren't
enforcing a few hours before.

And the one rule you really need, you've never seen
fit to include, requesting posters to be respectful
to each other and to respect the forum.

And while you are better than many at obeying the
rules, you have runs when anything, including
massive disrespect become your norm.

In a perfect world, things don't work well without
respect and tolerance. If you expect the "kids" to
comply" you have to comply yourself except in the
event of a nuclear attack when all rules are
immediately suspended for 48 hours.

I'm not telling you how to run things here... just
pointing out the future if they continue the way
they are now.

You're capable of having one of the best forums in
the country, but it's up to you to make that call
and up your own personal standards in order to get
there.

It's in your hands, not ours. We'll follow your
lead and reap the rewards accordingly.

I don't care if you are disrespectful to me
"personally" or not. I do care when others pick up
that it must be ok and everyone uses you as an
excuse to go off the deep end rather routinely.

...if you don't do day care, why did you take the
job? You treat this opportunity to learn and grow
like it's a burden.

By definition, a good moderator has to put their own
ego and biases aside for the larger good to help the
process help the participants.

Everyone gains when you are successful at this...
and you most certainly gain as well.

In your role, the larger process has to be more
important than your own particular quirks... you have
to be above the fray if you expect it to be

To a degree, you have to be the daddy...

...as you know Bopp I did start my own "boards" via
the community radio medium in 1978 and as the
"father" grew it to 65 very feisty volunteers.

I'm not suggesting anything to you I didn't demand of
myself.

Although I left KVMR long ago, the lessons I learned
remain valid today and the station I began will be 41
this summer and is, from what I've heard from
strangers, regarded as one of the nations premier
community radio stations.

There were a lot of 2 year olds that first year...
most of whom went on to pursue careers well beyond my
own limited ability.... which I consider a testament
to the success of my efforts. If you don't respect
and help cultivate all of the "diverse" talent that
hangs out here, you may never know how much more all
of you could have grown if the soil had been a bit
more fertile.

Why else would you put in all that time and effort...

...it certainly wasn't for the money.

I'm sorry you disagree with most of what I had to
say.

My advice still stands... if you can't deal with folk
like Georg, your mission here won't get any easier
any time soon.

Fix Bopp first, everything else will be icing on the
cake.

i can deal with "georg" just fine...radio is a lot different than these boards...i still do a show on the local college npr station...you don't have any control over that audience...i get calls from all kinds...mostly good but some not so much...the eb boards are for adults...if you can't act or behave like one, then you may not be able to participate...my call...pretty simple actually...there is wheat here among the chaff...the boards are good for exposing people's hypocrisy and inner conflicts...maybe that helps them to be better...it certainly has helped me...

...I wasn't relating to KVMR's audience, but to it's
"programmers" that I was ultimately responsible
for... I consider your posters here as "programmers"
that potentially reach out to a larger audience via
the medium you so thoughtfully provide.

There was a time I believed that I could come to EB
and come away enlightened, informed, and slightly
ahead of the "curve"...

I feel that less and less often these days and my
observation is you don't know how to control it,
partly because often you can't even control yourself
as Georg has pointed out.

Like others here have suggested, this is your
playground and I agree...

...ultimately it's your choice.

What's happening in my own life is that I feel the
larger world is evolving far more quickly than is
being reflected in most of the posters here.

I have watched more one and half to two and half hour
current events programs available through youtube
lately than I have watched in my entire life prior to
here.

These tend to be reasoned, free wheeling educated
events that discuss issues that are currently
changing our world.

I don't even bother to post them here because the
climate is so hostile and generally biased.

I respect your right to control the "kids" but I wish
you knew how much of what's going on in the world
you're being distracted from.

I never saw your forums as a place to win my points
at the expense of others, but rather as a place to
mingle with like minded adults that I could grow and
mature with regardless of their individual
differences...

...and that's what I'm now slowing finding through
other sources.

Please don't take my "criticisms" as mean spirited
but as a sign of respect for what you have spent 20
years of life in the hopes that some of it might
resonate in ways useful to the next 20 years.

most loved broadcasters in northern California.
