I am glad we are taking a time out. I look at my
spiritual beliefs vs my behavior and I don't like what
I see.
If we were neighbors we would probably find we are all
very decent law abiding people. But since time
immemorial, religion and politics brings out the worst
in us.
I choose to apologize for continuing to pour verbal
gasoline on our never ending flame wars.
There are several of you that I believe it is best I
not respond to. And it might be best you not respond to
me.
We will never, ever change our core beliefs. Why argue
about them.
I will do my best to start new behavior patterns and
look at MY behavior, not yours.
Thanks to Bopp for creating this community. Lots of
good things in the community so I will attempt to add
value instead of taking value away.

Wow what a soul you have! To self-reflect & be honest about what you see, is golden.
I related much to what you said about "if we were neighbors." Yeah, the smiles & eye contact first sure can help soften the reactions to differences once such subjects as you named, come into conversation.
I'm nobody, mostly lurk and had to share my reaction to this post of yours. Actually, I think your forum here and all of you regulars should pat yourselves on the back that you don't have more word-wars than you do. Our nation and world are on-fire, so to speak and here you are discussing any and everything.

well if everyone on the web, not just here Jim would 'see' the person as if they were sitting down with them on the couch or across from them drinking a cup of coffee and were having just a conversation about things, (whatever they are) and look into their eyes, read their body language, have respect for them and really believe the adage, that we can respectfully 'agree to disagree' and still be caring of each other and their lives, then that can be accomplished can't it? A friend and I had that conversation the other day as we were on opposite viewpoints about certain political figures but we didn't get into a fight, we didn't get upset with each other, we just stated what we 'felt' or thought this or that and then just dropped it......and still love each other and certainly won't 'let' our differences get in the way of our friendship.
that is still the clue, 'listening', being able to have a conversation with give and take respecting each others views no matter what, no matter if it is in person, or in an email, or a forum, or twitter, facebook, or even an old fashioned snail mail or phone call....and if any of us, myself included, find that 'we' can't do that, then its time to just be quiet and let others fight and attack if that's what they chose to do. Its more important to 'like' yourself then it is to 'like' others as you have to live with yourself ...forever...and boy every time I slip and do or say something that is not from the 'best' part of me, it sure comes back to haunt me!...lol...and I take that as a lesson, to keep trying to be a better person.
and maybe that's all any of us can do..:-)
