I thought it was a good strategy. Ryan was like the
department of transportations emergency vehicle with the
yellow flashing lights telling you to be careful. Bopp
on the other hand was the highway patrol guy with siren
blasting in full riot gear.

Personally, I preferred ryan in the rear view mirror over
bopp.

By the way, what did happen to Austen and Rig? Will they
be back? An answer that goes beyond "yes and no" would
be most appreciated. If possible, I'd like to hear a
response from both ryan and bopp, but it's your call.

All that will do is create more divisiveness. Bopp should stand his ground,
imo. Enough of the bully tactics here. Every time he makes a decision some
of you don’t like, the same whiners come here complaining. If you people
are so dissatisfied with the way he runs the boards, why don’t you go start
your own chat board and see how many people show up and stick around. If
people, including myself took more care with posting, Ryan would probably
be showing up a lot more than Bopp. IMO

When your reasons for posting are based on stirring the
pot, putting people down who disagree with you and
causing chronic disorder and displaying arrogance gone
wild and uncontrolled, what is their value?

My only disagreement with Bopp is too long banning them.
Try 5 - 10 day time outs first.

I'm neutral on the issue. It won't effect my life whether they're banned or
not. It's just so easy to skip posts from people we know will 'trigger' us. But
better yet, personally speaking I'd be better off just not letting something
someone writes here 'trigger' me at all (it's challenging, I know, but a good
exercise)

We can react, respond more thoughtfully or just see the poster, skip it &
move on. Calling someone arrogant or accusing them of causing chronic
disorder on the site is needlessly giving them more power than they
deserve. If you think about it, a really 'awful', 'disruptive' post only causes
problems because people react to them, causing a cascade of nastiness. If
we didn't react, most likely those threads (sub-threads) would die a quick,
drama-free death. No oxygen, no fire. Historically it doesn't happen
enough here, imo. That can change, but it takes individual will - one post at
a time.

Anyway, it seems to me that Ryan/Bopp has been working on himself for a
long time and is trying to actualize who he is becoming here in this role he's
chosen for himself. I just thank you Bopp for persevering, on multiple
levels.

I think (and I may be wrong) that as you said it seems '...Ryan/Bopp has been working on himself for a
long time and is trying to actualize who he is becoming...'.
I've noticed that, too. Whether it is his EB persona or his personal being or a combination of the two. It does seem that through the years he has been doing some deep personal investigation and work. This is not easy. I've been there any number of times. Would that the path could be made easier and softer; I commend him for sticking with it.

And yes, it is best to ignore posts that would set one off. Yet there are some posts that can be surprising growth opportunities if looked at neutrally with open discussion rather than labeling, name calling and put-downs.

I was the father of Community Radio KVMR FM in Nevada
City, California back in the 1970's. I was known for
practicing what I now preach. I was more interested
in helping create great communicators than winning
pissing contests.

A good leader also knows how and when to be a good
follower. I've enjoyed and respect what Bopp does
here for years but I believe, from multiple
experiences, that a person that puts themselves in a
leadership role must learn to accept standards well
above the rest of the pack.

In the long term, it just doesn't work well any other
way. There is no one posting on these boards that I
would ban. There are however, several that I would
love to take long walks with along the banks of Deer
Creek or the forests of Banner Mountain.

It has been my good fortune that many of my early
volunteer broadcasters surpassed my own meager radio
skills several thousand fold over the ensuing years.
I wouldn't have had it any other way.

For what it's worth Akira, I wish everyone could see
things as clearly as you do.

I think we're all doing just fine. A
spiritual/leadership path, while a noble endeavour, is by
definition, fraught with adventures.

The fact that we are all on the "same page" is probably
not an accident.

I've been on both sides of the aisle as it pertains to
"free" speech.

During the years I played the role of "top dog and
resident guru", I quickly learned to not take shit
personally. If it was necessary, I met personally
with the "offenders" and helped them bridge the "gap"
they were experiencing. It always worked. Always.

This only works if the "leader" allows it to work and
is not "personally" offended by the process.

Having said that, what worked for me may not work with
the "personalities" involved here. While I recognize
and appreciate the skills of both Trapper and Rig,
they should know, that unless bopp has a christmas
miracle of some sort, their next verbal confrontation
probably won't end well.

Assuming of course, that the same goes double for me.

Well, it would be nice if rules were applied equally. There are some who can be as opinionated and confrontational as others--or even more so--yet are given free passes. I'm about through with walking on eggshells. Which is why I studiously avoid even opening posts by certain people. I'll take the chance of missing something interesting or important--it's just not worth it. In fact, is it even worthwhile at all to stick around anymore?

What you're "saying" is absolutely true. What we're
"dealing" with here is not quite so clear. I still
learn a great deal here and "learning" continues to be
important to me.

I don't like that some people get a pass and others
get a "home" job. But I don't set the rules or bear
the responsibility for their enforcement.

The irony is that it's a lot harder for me to play the
role of "enlightened" follower here than it was ever
for me to play the role of enlightened leader.

It's always a challenge isn't it.

Confusion say an open forum with only one perspective
soon have only small handful of active posters... half
get scared off and other half gets bored to tears with no
one to preach to.

Even boss gets bored. You got a long time good thing
going, why discourage it?

Guidelines are good but sometimes you come way too close
to bullying. Like the priest and his parishioners, more
is expected from the "power" figure.
