Are there any good new email services that are an alternative to gmail, yahoo, hotmail? I looked at StartMail and am not sure -- it seems like a honeypot too. The one based in Iceland also seems odd although beautiful photographs of Iceland. Although I don't know much more. Any ideas? Thank you.

Yes, Angelina, try fastmail.com ... I've been using them for about 7 years ... no ads, no pay, great service and great privacy. The company is located in Australia, the servers in New York.

Well, they DO have a "free 60-day trial" and their plans include an option for only $10 a year.
If the service is THAT great and fast as the testimonies say, then it would be worth it.

It's been free for me as long as I've used them. They just implemented the new front screens you see and I guess a short-term trial period for new users; I had not read that before posting the message to Angelina.
I will say that it is such a relief not to have things popping up all over one's email screen and there's only a trickle of spam that ever gets through on the free accounts; paid accounts are screened altogether for spam, so are virtually "spamless".
One other thing: I've never been unable to login, and their service has never been down as long as I've used them. That's saying a lot, since they've done many upgrades and changes to server locations, etc. They always announce what they're doing, and the transitions have been seamless for the end-user.
... hope this helps ...

When I went there, the testimonies are praiseful, but one guy said, "absolutely worth the money"
So, it's not free...

If you are looking for "free" services, there will always be a catch. They have to make their money somehow, be it advertising, scanning your emails or planting cookies for marketing research, etc....
You obviously have an ISP as you are online. Unless things are changing they always provide email as part of your service. That's less likely to be snooped on.
To be fully free, you have to pay. Did the irony meter just peg?
For myself, since I have my own websites, I get my own mail servers with that. The only thing they do is spam filtering, which you can turn off.
Nothing is free.
