Something changed in my 'puter. When I click on a post,
it will NOT change color to let me know I've already read it.

I just need help again, on where to go, what to do, etcetera
to see if I can 'repair' that function.

Thanks in advance - to anyone.

No, it's not just here - that's why I think it's MY computer.

But, I myself, did NOTHING different - at all. It just quit
working all by itself.

It's annoying as heck.

I use Firefox. It updates automatically when there is a new version available. I have Windows XP and I will not use Google Chrome anymore because Google stopped updating Chrome for Windows XP users.

Do you have any add-ons of any kind installed into Explorer? Install any new ones recently?

There's a reason so many tech savvy people recommend staying away from internet "exploder", it's got a history of security holes and as such is a favorite target of hackers.

Add-ons are an effective way of breaching IE's vulnerabilities. A lot of folk's problems are caused by installing some add-on or gizmo or gadget into their browser (all browsers are vulnerable to some degree) only for it turn out to be a trojan horse of some kind. Personally, I recommend never installing any add-ons that aren't truly necessary and then to only get them from verified legitimate sources.

I recommend starting explorer in safe mode. You can google for "internet explorer safe mode" for instructions. But by starting up in safe mode you are disabling all the add-ons. Then you can see if your problem persists. If not, then you will need to disable all the add-ons manually and turn them on one at a time until you find the culprit.

You said you hated Chrome. Have you ever tried Firefox?

Brian

Try closing your internet browser all together, then reopen it. It works for
me.

Internet explorer? Safari? Something else?

That may help others to know, that may be able to help.

For example, I am running Apple Safari. If I close it with the red dot in the
top left, and reopen it from the icon below, I will see exactly what you are
experiencing. Doesn't show what I've read. But if I close it way up on top,
where it says Safari, by highlighting and select Quit Safari, it will close and
my icon will disappear also. Then I have to find it in Launchpad ( programs
in Windows). I open it there, the problem is resolved, and the icon is back.

I just don't close it anymore. It seems it started after I did a update Apple
sent.

Hope that helps, but be careful, we don't want to lose you altogether, until
the Nerd Herd gets there.

Jeff

Internet Explorer. A good while back, my daughter put me
on gooogle chrome, but I HATED that and went back to explorer.

I guess I need to give safari a try; you're not the first
person to suggest that to me .

Well you may have to get a Mac to run it, I don't know.

Anyway, at the top where it say's Internet Explorer, maybe in blue, right
click and select " Close ". Then open it in programs or somewhere
different then the icon on your screen. See if that helps. Oh, before you do
it, find it first in Programs so you know where to go.

I have a old Windows XP, but it is not connected to the internet anymore,
since Microsoft does not support it anymore. And I don't want to lose what
I use it for. So I can't experiment with it.

Good luck

Jeff

and I swear everything's different.

I think what I'll just have to do is wait until the next date pops up, and
just read the prior date's stuff. Then save today's stuff for tomorrow, etc.

One of these days I'll be brave enough to try downloading something
new. As much as I may need it, change is difficult for me.

Too often, attempting change only served to hurt me.

You can download/install Safari or whatever and just play with it while
still keeping explorer. You can shift back 'n forth. Don't give up explorer
until you're comfortable with something better.

Well I'm sure your not alone, I saw the same thing on this completely
different system. I just found a work-around. But it does rear it head from
time to time.

I hope mr bopp has some insight for you.

Best to you and the family,
Jeff

I'm going to sound like a "CT" nut, but when it STARTED,
it only did this on 'questionable' posts.

At least the black helicopters no longer fly overhead.
