AVG has gone over to the dark side, even Ad Aware has
morphed into a "can't wait to uninstall" joke.

I fully realize that's the gig, you get stuff for free
for x years then bam, they get so popular and necessary
now you have to pay or deal with endless ads and
confusing "click here to download" nonsense.

Just wondering what anyone else is using that's all.
Thanks.

Although I've yet to ever get infected simply because I practice 'safe hex'...

Take a look at NOD32 from Eset.

I had never heard of it until several years ago where the company I worked for used it. But at the time I researched it and it had great reviews, especially amongst the gamer crowd.

They have a free online scanner that I've used several times.

Hi Mark,
I've come to rely on this guy. He's a local computer columnist. His site
contains directions for cleaning all types of operating systems along
with various anti-malware programs free and not free.
I use malwarebytes and superantispyware. The links are on Nick's site.
Recently I also have begun using "adwcleaner" and "junkware removal
tool". Both are free. You can find them on most download sites.

I'll stick with my mac...and if you read the article it says mac released two software updates to deal with it, so no anti-virus software needed...I've always been on a mac...i have never had a blue screen, a virus or any problem that a reboot did not correct...maybe they cost a bit more at the onset but I surely have saved that in never having had to deal with windoze crap and vulnerabilities...

Hi Ryan. You kind of remind me of my daughter. She has the Mac Pro and is always teasing me about getting malware and virus in my computer. However she does have an antivirus and malware program in her computer. She says it doesn't hurt to take precautions. She laughs and says it is sort of like practicing unsafe sex. You never know what you can get and from whom.

I have been using a microsoft program for about 20 years now and have only gotten one virus. I got it through my email from a person I know who got it from a person he knew. Fortunately it didn't do any damage and was more of nuisance than anything.

I will admit that when the computer I'm currently using goes south the next one will most likely have one of the Linux programs in it. They are just as safe as an apple, but don't have the high cost. Take Care...Don

linux is good too...another important thing to consider is hardware components...I have never had one fail in my macs...hard drive, cd/dvd players, fans...no problems...plus the windoze interface is so clunky and non-intuitive...
