What could be preventing embedded? videos to show when I open a post? All that shows up is a black rectangle.
When the link is posted, the videos can be viewed by clicking on the link which then opens a new page.
Any help, please?

I have no solution. It started happening quite suddenly to me also several days back. Have tried everything I can think of.

Internet explorer is what I'm using, haven't hooked into Chrome--that I know of! It's not only trapper's videos that refuse to view, but some others at other websites/blogs.

Just the opposite for me. I checked chrome a few days ago and Trapper's embedded videos did work there but chrome isn't user friendly for me in many other ways, LOL.

Me either. Having the same issue as many are. I sent a not to msn as
they often have links that lead to videos, I just get the adverstisement
then nothing...sometimes I go over and click on the actual topic at
bottom of the video and it works, not always. Adobe...my computer does
not like it....chrome....my computer does not like that either. It's hit and
miss for a week or so now.

Just to post in general, not to anyone per se...just stopped here after
skimming the posts. Although my computer never did want Adobe or
Chrome, it often did play the videos that msn had hooked up to. Oh, and
I can't play the ones on the nightly news hook ups...want's something of
me that my computer seems suspicious about. I can live without it and
have...but the recent ones I could view have gotten irky. Probably want
some funding.

Eve, do you have a geek or even a techy teen in your circle of contacts? I think your 'puter needs a clean-out and some tweaking.

mae, yeah I think there are a couple folks I could ask. Although it has
been doing better since I posted that...maybe that was the fix. Naw, just
being silly. I think I may need to download some Mac updates...just
when I am getting ready to turn it off it asks me do I want to download
updates.I say later. Later does not come.

The geek who set up the computer said if I leave it on all the time it will
automatically occur. I just don't like leaving it on all the time as it calls to
me when I need to do laundry.

I am almost positive I know the area I need to go to download...if not as
you suggested I will ask the one person I know who gave it to me or call
the store and wait for hours for a response. If nothing else there is call
Mac or take it to a store. It's not that bad yet and esp. now, I wondered
maybe it was that solar upset we had for a few days. Maybe my Mac is
sensitive to aurora's.

Thanks, and at some point I am surely gonna need a geek...yet it is quite
user friendly. I could do oodles on it. Though I would have to take time
to figure it out...like make a movie. That's not me anyway though. I
scare myself if I accidentally turn the cam on, so I put a sticky flower over
the lens. That is just in case the aliens are watching too. I said to the
geek who set it up..."do you ever wonder if there is some little creature
on the other side looking back at you?"....to my surprise he said" yeah",
but looked a bit embarrassed he had answered me without hesitation.

that if I download an embedded video using
chrome, I only get a black rectangle. I feel like I have
to use internet explorer to download embedded
videos.

I can view videos from either chrome or explorer.

I haven't downloaded any videos.
Don't use Chrome, only IE.
Well, that's heck if downloading is required to view...don't want to do that!

I should have said, copy and paste the embedded code.

I copied and pasted the embedded code? (right click on black to get 'properties', copied then pasted to the path bar at the top of my screen in a new and separate window.)

Also tried same 'properties' copy/paste in the top path bar--in the same window--above the post that contained the black box.

Both ways brought a full black screen.

sigh

That technique usually works for me. the result does come up full screen though. Once in a while it won't work and I just get an unresponsive black screen. I wish that people would put the link in the url box when they embed the vid.
If I ever get the "cure' I promise I'll share. Right now another browser might be it...I just don't like starting all over with new bookmarks and etc.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever downloaded a video. I do click around and view them and never had a problem until now. It seems to be all Vimeo and embedded vids that are posted here. I can view linked you tubes but not the ones embedded. I get a plain black box like what Chattilion described.
