I threw out all my IBM System 34, 36 and AS400 RPG manuals, even though programming RPG (beginner level) for 10 years was what got me started in my long-term job in Portland. The books I've kept are for Access VBA programming, which I did for the next 10 years (beginner level). Now I'm doing mostly part-time clerical.
Many hardware and programming manuals 20 to 30 years ago might not apply as much as they did then. I'm guessing that C++ and variations are still being used by major software companies like Microsoft and Mentor Graphics.
