Try UBUNTU! You will be amazed. Lots of apps available too. There's nothing like open-source s/w in my opinion. I did manage a power supply outage but so far no viruses, for now. If anyone has heard anything different let me know. The good thing is that Windows and Ubuntu do not mix in programming. They are separate operating systems. Now the MACS finally got a horrible backdoor virus but it took them ten years. Buy yourself some time and save yourself a lot of misery. If you have any questions, I can direct you to my source or ask him for you.

Btw, my tech told me to tell everyone this- :). He said look over there at the Windows CPU's brought in. He said I see these people at least twice a year. On this side Ubuntu boxes, hardly a one or two to fix.

Try a Google Chromebook. There is both a desktop and a
laptop model.

Polydactyl;

I couldn't agree more. I'd dump Windoze in a minute except for one thing; I program in TrueBasic, which doesn't work in Linux.

Ubuntu wouldn't be my choice in Linux either. It shares a lot of Windows problems in that its a big bloated OS.

I prefer Puppy Linux which comes in all flavors and fits on a single CD

best of all, it's FREE

Most Linux are free compared to the hundreds you'll pay for Windows and all the updates you'll need.

Roger thanks a ton for the recommendation. Puppy Linux, never heard of it. Ubuntu doesn't work with some specialized programs but so far don't have the need (for work or personal).

I do hate bloated programs 'cause I know they will eventually have problems I can't solve. People make it sound like it's a 'no fail' program that open sourcing will always solve, but not for free, LOL! Not being a programmer or tech specialist myself, I do download tons of 'junk' I have to clean off later which may be taxing the program if the OS is a hog. That's an easy way to stress a hog- :) Good to know about anyway.
