No virus...isn't data dump an old thing. I have a newer computer..anyway I will shut down. Everything is fine until I boot back up and then it goes auto to file dump, choose between three safe modes and starting normal, etc. This is a newer computer and there are no virus. Any ideas? I see a new Dat file was implimented about the time this started happening last week and was updated. Does that file have info I need? I have forgotten much of this stuff now. I was going to run a "tune up" but it states that certain files will be permently deleted. I do not remember that before and will it delete my data dump files that I may need? Thanks ahead of time, Dona

Honey, please get thy PC to a reputable computer doc, STAT! You've got a nasty virus for sure. Ya, I've done the same thing turning the machine off an on to see what the bastard program will do next - BAD IDEA! Each time you boot up another piece of the virus deletes more hard disc, or whatever, you won't know what it did until you take it in. The tech can hook it up mirror whatever files you have left and prevent disc damage, which some of them do. I know, sigh, because I like to twiddle de buttons to see what that button does and in Windows, go to websites or open email just because, then Crash Bang. Also without solid (sometimes expensive) virus software and decent PC installation (at the outset), using something like Windows will guarantee constant upkeep and fiddling around.
Finally a tech suggested I try Ubuntu (Linux). The good thing about Ubuntu is that it supports the Internet stuff without the Windows but I'm not likely to give anyone a virus or vice versa since Ubuntu and Windows do not mix or match. So far so good - crossing the fingers now..;)
