changed my home page to ixquick.com (homepage) as a search engine. Its founder, Dr. Katherine Albrecht, is a big advocate of personal liberty and freedom.

I posted this below your post on LIAHO so will link to that instead of reposting here. I offed gmail a long time ago - what a crock that email program is! There appeared to be no way to stop the hundreds of spam email I got so I just use google with no sign in, just use it as my homepage and there's no profile at all on me (unless I sign in of course).
I love my 2 little freeby programs as they speed up my old puter right after I use them to delete the cookies which over time, can really be troublesome.

those 2 programs are tiny but so effective and easy to install. Neither one of them have any ads or tracking cookies but they sure do the job of getting rid of the nasties that most websites use now.
Winpatrol installs in your programs with a little icon that you have in your taskbar (a little scotty dog) which you can right click, select "cookies" to see the list and then just delete them all.
I'm amazed at how many cookies I find even after just a few visited websites!
ATF cleaner is my MUST HAVE thingy and so easy to use, here's a description but they say "run as administrator" which I don't do, just have it on the desktop where it sits, and do this:

Removing temporary files, deleting the cookies, cleaning history, emptying the Recycle Bin, all of these need to be done every once in a while to be sure the operating system doesn’t suffer from the slowdown syndrome.
But since this is such an important procedure, why not doing it with specialized software that can make the whole thing a lot easier and faster?
ATF Cleaner was created with this goal in mind, trying to offer users what they need the most: a simple yet efficient way of cleaning the computer.
There’s no need to install the application because it’s being delivered as a stand-alone executable file and you’ll see the reason behind this decision once you see its interface for the first time.
It’s all about simplicity inside ATF Cleaner, so the way it looks shouldn’t be criticized too much. It lets you pick the files you wish to delete, be them Windows temporary files, cookies, temporary Internet files, Java cache, prefetch and some others, and that’s basically it.

Also, my advice: Never download anybody's toolbar as they all track everything. Just set google's main address as your home page - "www.google.com" without the need to sign in - the signin is the "gotchya" that does the profiling!
Even with their toolbar, I think ATF cleaner will rid you of most garbage they plant.

I can't seem to do it, I went to the link
I downloaded and tried to run with no luck
The icons that loaded one looks like a file folder with a zipper called "PCHealthdoc unzip" the other a trash can with the lid off called 'ATF-Cleaner"
I can't seem to make either work lol
Didn't I tell you I was techno-challenged lol

Hmmm, my ATF cleaner (I just now looked) icon is a trash can with a lid. You just double click the icon and a box should come up which you then select what you want cleaned. I select "all" and then another little box comes up with the number of megabytes it cleaned. Then you ok that, then exit. That's all there is to it.
If it still doesn't work, download from site at the link.
I'd delete the other "PC thingy" one - might not be one you want.
