Has anyone here had the problem with their mouse cursor disappearing? I am using my older desk top right now, but it's my laptop that is giving me problems. The "touch cursor pad" got worn out some time ago so I went to a mouse plugged into a USB port, which was working well until 2 weeks ago and the cursor just disappeared. It's not the mouse because I tried 2 others with no results. The big problem is that I can't put the laptop through diagnostic without a cursors help. I did find that using the "Tab Bar" and enter got me into the computer panels, but then it got to the point where I HAD to have a cursor to finish. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - even using a hammer. :) Thanks!

ideas:
First, remove and reinstall the mouse connector into the Correct Socket.
Is the light (laser) working (if it's light (laser) mouse)?
Some laptops have side by side sockets only one of which is for the mouse.
Ususally w/o mouse you can do an "alt-x" to get a drop down menu which allows arrows to move the cursor around
Or Boot using a rebooting floppy which may/should install a mouse driver. Then remove and reinstall the mouse driver software on your HD (which might have landed in a bad sector run 'checkdisk' first on bootup to clear out bad sectors).
Make sure you are using the correct mouse driver software for your mouse (on reinstall).
Try your mouse on another computer to see if it works there (also).

It's late in the evening so I will check this out tomorrow. I have 3 USB ports on my laptop and both mouses I have used in these ports light up, but still no cursor. Is it possible that the USB ports are shot? Just why don't the makers include Trouble Shooting booklets with computers? Oh, maybe so we will go buy a new one? Thank you

If the mice are known good (ie they work on other computers)....
and, they light up when plugged in to the problem computer (assuming an LED mouse, not one with balls... hehehhee)... and especially if the light brightens when you move the mouse (all the ones I've seen do), then it's not the USB hardware.
Is there a cursor anywhere on the screen? Even one that doesn't move?
Does the system tell you it can't find a mouse when it boots?
If the mouse icon won't move or it's not there, could be a driver issue like the other bloke said.
BTW, it's possible to navigate windows by keyboard alone through the use of the tab, alt, arrow, and enter keys.
alt-tab switches between windows.
if a window has focus (top bar is blue not grey, assuming default color scheme, use alt-tab to get focus there), hitting alt will send focus to the menu bar, at which time you can use arrows to navigate the menus until you find what you want and then hit enter.
within a focused window, tab alone will jump from clickable item to the next. Enter then selects. shift-tab runs backwards, in case you pass up what you wanted.
moving and resizing windows - alt on focused window to highlight 'file' menu, but press up arrow bring up different menu. select choice, use arrows to perform function. enter when done.
Oh, and the 'windows' key brings up the start menu.
I'm sure there's more, but these are the basics. It's handy to know these things.
"Keyboard not found. Press any key to continue." - No joke. I've had this.
BTW, windows even has a virtual keyboard tucked away somewhere (don't remember, never used it) that you can use with the mouse. Handy for those who can't use a keyboard. Could be handy to know in case your keyboard stops working.

I will check all of this out in the morning. I can't believe how many posts there are on line with the same problem and most can't find an answer. Thank you again for taking the time to help out

Also try cleaning the mouse as hair and grease can accumulate sending the laser out of whack.
