Subject: problem

Hi All. Have a problem that only occurs on Bopp's board and only with Firefox browser. When I make a post I can't view the post ofter closing the board. I have to close firefox and reboot my computer and even then it still may not be able to see my post. I can view the post using Opera or IE9. It's driving me bonkers. Any thoughts about the cause? Take Care...Don

I get that too, but if I refresh it is fine. Sometimes you have to do it twice. This is only happening to me on one or two of the pages here.

Wow... no one yet mentioned the obvious?

Clear your cache. How exactly depends on the version as the menus subtly change. But googling your version and "clear cache" should find your answer fairly quickly.

It may not help, but it's typically the first and easiest thing to try on browsers. The other's ideas aren't without merit, though.

In lieu of clearing the cache, you can do a forced reload of the page. Hold down the ctrl key while clicking the reload button.

Hi Don,

Have you tried this link:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting

There's also volunteer support to help you troubleshoot the problem.

Running scandisk (preboot) to clear hard disk errors/bad sectors might be a good idea too.

Removing and reinstalling the Firefox may also be in order ( a DLL maybe corrupted).

Also if you have a firewall, try and monitor the ports being used as you use Firefox. (Maybe actively blocking some ports and internet protocols used by Firefox may give you some insights).

Also maybe monitor memory use and cpu use too (use cntrl-alt-del and select "Start Task Manager").

I've had trouble with memory issues when total Firefox memory use approaches 800-900K+. After closing some screens down and reducing memory use, the functionality returns SAT.

1) memory limitation? Try different older versions of firefox. memory management may be damaged in firefox.

2) try a different cpu -like at the library (and compare memory available if different.)

3) Is more than one browser open at the same time? close all except firefox.

4) is your AV software up to date?

5) try going thru a proxy server to see if there is any difference.

5) Try inprivate browing vs non-private browsing switch

6) Is firefox allowing cookies?

Hi Ideas. Do you have any ideas as to which proxy's are safe. I looked them up and it appears some of them are there for the purpose of taking control of your computers by hackers.

Something I have noticed though is that when I clean the history the problem goes away so now I have firefox set to clean history when I shut it down. Another thing I noticed is that when I used ccleaner it would tell me I had to shut down firefox in order to clean it. I knew before I used ccleaner I had to close firefox so I do, but for some reason ccleaner was still telling me it was operating. That started with the latest version of ccleaner. The problem with firefox has been around a lot longer then that.

Thanks to both you and Geeksquad. Take Care...Don

Hi Don,

>Do you have any ideas as to which proxy's are safe. I looked them up and it appears some of them are there for the purpose of taking control of your computers by hackers.

You're right. One idea is to look how long the server has been up. If it has only been up for a short time there is a higher possibility that it may be infected. As people report the infections those proxies are deleted from the list of available proxies (proxy server list).

Also up date your AV signature file just before going to the proxy list and trying them out. Make sure your AV is set to 'high security' for internet traffic. After you find a non-infected proxy you can dial it back down to medium security level.

Another idea is to daisy chain to a trusted proxy and it's AV protection will halt the daisy chaining (or let it go through if nothing is detected).

Also, DO NOT hit any proxy server that has a letter Z in it's name (e.g fastproxyZ.info). That just may be hacker speak for a hacked server (to other hackers/crackers). Same is true for any free download of software. If it has a Z in it especially at the end of it that means it's been hacked usually and may have a bad payload in it (e.g. freeApplicationZ.exe)

[I want to daisy chain a bunch of proxies to hide my IP how can I do so]

Hi Ideas. I went back as far as Firefox 5 and there was no change. I also disabled all the addons (4). Only one browser is open. AV is up to date. Haven't tried a proxy yet. Used both private and non-private browsing. No difference. I also have to clean all trace of use. The problem is only on Bopps board, which in a way is strange.
