Subject: 80g Firelite external hardrive not recognized any more;

Just yesterday my 80g Firelite external hardrive is not being recongized by my 7 year old 17" Dell Inspiron 9200 laptop with XP. A few months ago my OS contracted a nasty virus which caused me to reformat my internal hardrive & re-install all my programs & reconfigure them. I decided not to copy all my data from my external hardrive back to my internal hardrive to allow the extra space to increase the speed & performance of my computer. I never imagined that my external hardrive might attempt to crash first. It contains over 2 decades of all my intial school work, personal documents, photos, drawings, etc; with only a small portion being backed up on DVD data disks. I attempted to download a 'free' driver updater program from BTJunkie Bit Torrents with no success. I'm sure there are computer geek services that have retrieval methods; but I don't currently have the necessary financial funds for that expensive option. (;<) Does anyone have any nifty tricks that might cause it to be reconized one last time; so that I may reclaim my irreplaceable data? Thanx.

Was the hard drive SATA with SMART? next time have some software
that\ll report if the drive is showing any problems before it suddenly
dies.

On that note always buy ENTERPRISE rated Hard Drives which are for
commercial use just like the French wine they export is crap in
comparison to the best they keep for themselves ;-)

As for recovery software do a search on version tracker.com and read
the reviews.
