Subject: STINKIN' Windows Update!!!!!!! &$^#%#*&#!

Friday morning I decide to reboot my computer so it could run scan disk on reboot...mind you everything was running smoothly prior to the reboot.

Scan disk finishes with NO errors. Great, as I expected.

Windows decides to do an update once the scan disk is completed. So I leave the computer alone, waiting for this process to complete. Windows update has 3 updates to install.

It appears Windows update is completed as the computer goes into reboot mode. Not so fast here missy...upon the reboot it loops back into scan disk..once that's complete, back into Windows update.

Let the looping begin...and again and again...

I tried to boot up in safe mode, nada. I tried to boot and run a diagnostic...nada. I tried to reboot to an earlier time, nada. Everything I tried didn't work. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.... Off to the new computer repair guy. Hey, it was a free diagnostic.

Soooo...it ended up costing me $125.00 to reformat my computer. Which I could have done...if I would have known. It seems that Windows Update corrupted everything when it went through the looptee loop.
I picked my computer back up Saturday afternoon. Oh yeah, another thing...seems the same thing happened to my husbands computer the day before too. Except his mother board needed replacing besides the "looptee loop" on the Window's update.

Thank goodness I have Carbonite! Which is still loading. My only concern..is I have Incredimail Pro and I hope that everything was saved which is not showing up at this point. All my emails, folders, contacts..nothing yet. I've still got 19 hours to go..keeping my fingers crossed.

IF, let's hope not, but if it doesn't load..is there a way to get it back?

It's called de-evolution (or DeWorsifying) - the tech. peaks then starts to go backwards into increasing failure modes.

Try Linux and open source applications.

Expect more failures in ATM, communications, grid, etc. as complex complicated junk falls apart before your very eyes - since everybody is being marched lockstep into using this junk.

Failure Rate = ("version no. of windows")**2

For win 7 failure rate = 7**2 = 49
win 8 = 8**2 = 64
win 9 = 9**2 = 81

I think the Atlanteans went into the drink at their version of Win 12 (= 12**2 = 144)

Remember your cpu is just one gamma ray hit away from becoming a charming boat anchor if the deworsification doesn't get there first.

B. Ga tes is really in the boat business and jobs creation industry (with all the hardrive wipes).

Don't walk - run (away from win).

Hahahhaaha, I heard that! Let's hope Win falls away. It's certainly looks like it's going that way because of zero protection for holes everyone thinks they put there on purpose. Amazing that Linus being open source brought out the best (in code) and integrity of system (protection). Europe and China I think rejected Win totally and are going with Linux systems? You can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. We Americans are a tad slow and believe our own bullshit too much (I love us and hate us though)

You sound like a tech guru..heheehe! I started doing some research on Linux, as I've not really heard much about it before. I do appreciate the info on this and the suggestion too!

Ohhhh, I really hurt for you having to go through all of that :(

I had to replace my hard drive etc., etc. two days after the big quake/tsunami happened in Japan. What a time to have that happen; of all times to miss out on the latest news reports and so on... But then, there never is a really good time for stuff like this to happen, is there? :)

I hope it is working great now, and that you were indeed able to find the email files you wanted, after all.

Hey Barb,

Thanks, for saying that! I've been a grumble bunny over the last few days. Windows update keeps interrupting Carbonite's restore..enough to the point that I had to stop the downloads from happening automatically. Carbonite should have been done yesterday but it's not cause of all the interruptions. In fact it's been backing up since yesterday..which makes no since to me since I haven't done much on the computer since the reformat.

But one good thing, I hope is night before last I did notice that when Carbonite was restoring the folder was my "inbox"..sooo...keeping my fingers crossed that everything comes out ok once this is all done and I can try and re-download my email program.

Oh wow, Barb!! I know you must have been flustered not being able to keep up on current event's during that quake and tsunami in Japan, I know I would have been too!

Hi Debb, Did it finally update and restore?! I just got back to this board tonight so didn't see your earlier post. That's great that you spotted the restoring of your inbox. Hope it all was there when it finally finished!

Yes, I was really perturbed-to-the-max with my HD going out on me during that quake time. There are still some things that aren't quite right with it; but I am just using it in a not so up-to-par-state for those things. One of them is my video; I need an updated driver/VGA it seems now. My video is just barely tolerable. Ohhh well, another day for fixing all of that. I have too many other projects that aren't done these days. That's not usually the way I am....normally, I complete each project. But lately, sighhhh... Anyway, sure hope your computer is up and running well :)
