Subject: Any HP All-in-one Printer geeks out there? (;.)

Problem:
Recently a friend purchased B&W & color cartridges for my HP 2710 All-in-one printer. Upon installing both & closing the case; the “Check Color Cartridge” error displayed on the small screen. We both thought the contacts might be dusty; so we used rubbing alcohol & Q-tips to clean them thoroughly. No luck. Upon investigation it was discovered that the side spring that aligns the cartridges from right to left was constantly ‘popping’ out from the side of the cartridge encasement. We kept bending the spring clip to no avail. Later, after further investigation I discovered that a small piece of plastic that secures that part of the spring clip, was broken off. Being the engineer that I am; I thought of a way to ‘monkey rig’ the clip using a very small piece of metal in a ‘U’ shape; which solved the mechanical aspect of the problem. However; HP in its infinite wisdom; has made the contact tolerances too small & the cartridge must still not be aligned ‘exactly’; still generating the same error. Upon removing the cartridge completely; I get the “Color Cartridge Missing” error. I have tried ‘shimming’ the cartridge; but to no avail. The print & the copy aspect of the device are unusable; but because the scanner software is activated separately from the computer; I am still able to scan documents. I have already selected B&W only from the software on the print properties; but the errors will not even allow entry into setup; thereby rendering a $400 printer useless. (;<) Any other ideas; HP printer geeks? (;.)

We had an hp all-in-one printer for years. One has to
have about 3 of each cartridge in order to reset the
counter and continue printing. Used to fill my own
cartridges, but not that happy with the result -
especially color.  Eventually gave the printer away
(miss the scanning capabilities) and bought an hp
laserjet P1102 W. So far so good. Even use refill
toner cartridges advertised on Amazon. Color - if
we want to print color we head to Walgreens or similar
since they use better paper than is used at home.
We really like the laser printer tho.

Not a geek here, but loathed the other response. Good for you for trying to fix it cause it's better than adding this kind of thing to more landmines or sent to Africa and China for poor workers to hash a living off of, and get sick instead.

Hoping someone can help. I had issues once with used cartridges or refurbished, that is obviously not the problem you have. I have had HP items and still do...hated it when my favorite printer which back in the day they lasted forever...well companies wanted to make more money more stuff and it no longer would work with a new computer I had to purchase a new printer also. I still have an HP item though which for years has worked well...that old printer I had which was nothing wrong with, just would not set up with the newer devices, it was my fav!

Best to ya!
