Does anyone know if Verizon is a good internet provider?
I want to switch from Hughes net satellite it is slow, often down, and not a good fix with online games. My only option is verizon out here. Thanks Judy

I have Verizon, too. Like you the choice is Hughes or Verizon.

We have the mifi (which powers 5 wireless devices) so that our daughter & I can be on the internet at the same time. Our only problem (and it's a big one) is that we have a 5GB limit per month & then have to pay for overage. Not realizing how limiting that was the first month we had $186 in overage charges!!! We stay well within the limit as long as neither of us watches videos, listens to music or plays games. AGH! May as well have dial up again. Oh yeah, & we can pretty much forget about doing pictures on photobucket or the likes.

IF you can get an unlimited deal (& I know people who have Verizon with no limits) then I'd say go for it. I was going to look into Hughesnet but after reading what you wrote I'm not so sure. lol People have told me that if we keep 'harassing' Verizon they will give in & alter our plan. Hubby & I have called several times but we both hate having to 'harass' for what just seems fair.

Thankyou. This really did help me. Hughes net does not charge for bandwith and it costs $97 a month.
Grandkids love games, and so do I.
I checked with Road Runner who told me in a very calm voice it would cost around $20,000 dollars to run cable to our house lol...
I love the internet and all its info thanks for sharing. Peace Judy

Oh my, I'd hate to have to keep track. We've always had unlimited 24/7 Internet and phone service for $35. The additional line is another $21. We have 2 house lines here.
We were lucky because back when Verizon came to town very few of the lines were the right type to support DSL. Many of the locals still had party lines but our house being off the grid so far had unusual high-grade copper in the conduit coming up the mountain. Others around these parts invested in satellites.

There is no short answer. I was hoping someone else would chime in with better experience.
Verizon moved in here about 10 years ago. Before then i only had dial up. It was an excellent dial-up with a local provider that had knowledgeable tech support. Without that background, I'm not sure I would have survived Verizon. However, the DSL they offered was a dream come true.
99% of the time their tech support was worthless, after a few years I learned not to trust a word they'd say. The Internet would go down multiple times per year and most of the time it was a regional problem but they'd try to tell me it was my computer. Never let them try to change the settings and never believe them if they tell you it is illegal to run more than one 'puter off the connection, LOL. I live up a mountainside and usually could see the Verizon truck/workers digging or climbing poles after the net was down for a while, even when my service call would reveal no problems with the line, it must be my computer claim. In other words the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing so they flat out lie.

Last year they sold out to Frontier. I was told that Verizon is dumping all their Internet and land line companies. That might not be true in your area. To be on the safe side, if you go with them, do not set up your email with them. Also, they sell packages and some of them are expensive. We got ours for $35 per month, another friend paid $65 for what sounds like the same service. Yet another claims they only pay $21.
Verizon is noted for over selling bandwidth. That means your Internet will slow to a crawl during peak usage times.
