Subject: HELP !!!

My other laptop seemed to have survived its encounter with spilled coffee. A little cleanup, a little while in the freezer. My friends didn't even charge me. Worked just fine for two days.

This morning, as my fingers were eager to get back to editing Chapter 4, it won't accept my password -- and I am the only administrator on the system.

The hint is the same and proper.

But IT WON'T ACCEPT MY PASSWORD!

And my computer friends do not have Saturday hours.

And suggestions, guys?

Thanks.

Sigh.

Hi Kelli Marie, Did any of the solutions offered solve the password problem? I had that happen many years ago, but I didn't have all of the great suggestions of this forum then to help me solve it.

I am thinking that using another keyboard plugged into a usb would be a great option. Did you try that, and did it work? Hope you got it going.

Check your Caps Lock key. It is most likely stuck in upper case.

* Drink more coffee - wake up - then enter correct password :)
* Swap drives with the other laptop (same OS?)-reboot
* remove drive - add it as another extra drive on another cpu (with same OS) -read/copy files
* (lots spilled?) then remove drive - freeze then vacuum coffee ice out of internal HD casing
* use alternative keyboard & input socket (if avail.)
* Install replacement drive and reinstall OS - set and check new password (& keyboard) operation. Then pull new drive and reinstall the 'old' drive -use new password (and also checks proper keyboard function).
*Swith to Quill when writing and toying with coffee cup :)
* (Ck into Cross OS hack) Boot with Linux /Unix OS using Floppy A or CD/DVD - copy files using Linux /UNIX cmds.
* Ch. 4 obviously 'blowed' - and your subconscious took care of the problem -rewrite a better one! lol

Do you have an external backup?

is there any way to see if your password is getting typed in correctly

After the spill it might be spoiling your typed input and you'll only see the
secure **** rather than what is incorrectly going in.

Plug-in a usb keyboard which should bypass your damaged laptop one,
and try entering your password.

If you haven't got an external backup for all your files - then get one
pronto!
