ryan and all,
i am running ubuntu on an old dell. i am using firefox but have opera and safari and chrome.
what is the best way for me to stay anonymous on the web? i know my IP address is visible to other sites. what else is? not being a site administrator leaves me ignorant of a lot. any links or info or other help is appreciated.
in particular, if i am banned somewhere using my IP address, what else can they see that could identify me with a change in address.
thanks.

the best way to stay private is to use a proxy service...do a search on that...one example at the link...

or you could just get an aol account...they use proxy servers that hide identity and are hard to block without affecting others...

The biggest problem is that AOL dosn't stand for America On Line it realy stands for Always Off Line.

You're welcome. I learned about the "flash cookies" awhile back when, after deleting my regular cookies, one kept reappearing, even though I hadn't revisited the site that was setting them. The flash cookie (LSO) for that site was rewriting the regular cookie to the browser if it detected that the cookie had been deleted. Oh so sneaky.
If you don't already know about Electronic Privacy Information Center, you might want to check it out. There's all kinds of info there.
