OK I posted a picture on liaho. I checked my post and the picture was there. Others could not download the image. When I cleaned my cookies, I could no longer view the image. I am certain the address of the image did not change. Can anyone explain. I put the address into the "image url" box and posted. Is there anything else I should be doing?

it initially showed on your computer because the image was cached in your browser after you viewed it on the original site...so when you looked at your post you could "see" it because the browser just used your local version to make the page load faster...when you cleaned your cookies and cache you couldn't see it any longer because their server blocks image requests that come from a different server...

I kinda understood that. I guess, I don't understand why the picture did not post. This is the second time I have attempted to post a picture. Both attempts failed.

the image server will not honor requests by a remote server...meaning if the image is not being "called" by the website where it is hosted then the request is denied...

Sorry Bopp. I'm not sure I understand what you are telling me. Who is the remote server? How is an image "called"?
I apologise for being so "thick".

when a web page loads the content has to come from somewhere...usually the text and images all come from the same server, the server that the website is hosted on...the server is just a computer that is configured to display websites and has a good connection to the internet (good connection means a lot of bandwidth capability, so that the websites can handle lots of "traffic", or requests to see the website from different people at the same time)...
but all of the content on a web page does not have to come from the server that the website is hosted on...images for example, can come from another website server (it's called hotlinking)...to show an image you put a tag in, which is a bit of html code that has the URL of the image you want to show on your website...some websites (call them blocked websites) have some special code that has some rules, and sometimes one of those rules is to not let another site show any images from the blocked website, because they don't want to share their images with anyone unless they are visiting their own website...one reason that websites do this (block images) is because they have to pay for the bandwidth it takes to load their image onto someone else's website...maybe that makes it clearer...
do a search on "image hotlinking" if you want to learn more...
