Subject: Cursor Problem

I can't find any Computer Geek that can figure out this problem - hoping someone here might know something. I have an HP laptop (4 years old) with Windows XP. Turned on the laptop yesterday and there is NO cursor so I can't get into anything (I use the mouse pad on the PC). I even tried a wireless mouse with no luck. One Tech guy thought it might be a problem with Microsoft ware, but I can't even find that out without a cursor to get into Microsoft. Could I have accidentally hit a key to lock up the cursor? Any help would be appreciated so I can get off of this 8 year old E-Machine. Thanks!!!!

I ran into a similar problem a couple of years ago. The link is to a page with a list of keyboard-only commands to help you survive until the mouse is fixed.

Several years ago I attended a computer class in which the teacher recommended learning and using all of the keyboard shortcuts. He said he never uses a mouse, that using keyboard commands was faster for him!

I checked out the site and have written down all te instructions for using the keyboard number pads to replace the mouse or touch pad. I didn't realize ow often this problem comes up until I started doing research and found people going back to 2004 with missing cursor problems. Many had the problems only when gaming, but the great majority of them had the problem when they switched over to Vista. I solved my problem (for now) by buying a mouse rather then using the touch pad. I am just happy to have use of my laptop for now. It really made me think about a killer shot from the sun and ALL electronics going down. Talk about "withdrawal"! Thank you again ofor your help - and thank you too Don.
