my forest raccoons were rotfl their tails off after seeing this....
first, you are going to need a LOT of Irish spring soap and not all critters are offended by the scent -not just a bar or two - talking case fulls. Second, although the deer might bypass the garden, and the rabbits might but will tolerate if they get desperate, my experience has been that the squirrels, raccoons, bears, crows, ravens, blue jays, slugs - they don't pay attention or care - mission is to eat and if there is an annoying smell - so be it - they can work through it.

Back when I was a kid, we'd put soap shavings out to keep the deer from eating the bark from some of our fruit trees. Worked most of the time, except when they were (we assume) salt-desperate, then they ate the soap.

The critters (including deer) tended to avoid the area altogether when we put used cat litter anywhere around the tree...usually in a small bucket next to it, for the fruit trees, as we wanted to minimize the area where the fruit could fall in the litter...
We didn't do this in summer (used soap during the summer) as you don't want sun-warmed cat leavings stinking up your property, but in winter it was pretty effective.

Well, thats genius. Going to buy some next grocery shopping trip. I have so many old socks too, I no longer wear but never threw out. What a brilliant idea. I have been putting cayenne powder everywhere, but it washes away with every rain. This solution is easy. Thanks kay, for the video.
