Where I live there are many acreages with ponds, so
water and snapping turtles and terrapins travel the
roads in spring. Its common for traffic to halt while
people pick up a turtle frozen with fear and carry it
in the direction it was pointed. No matter how
pleasant the area they are walking from, if the are
turned around they will just go back to the same
direction. They are insistent.
So I stopped for a water turtle and discovered it had
just recently been hit and killed. The pond it was
headed toward was only 30 feet away. We all want an
ideal place like that turtle was headed, heavemn for
turtles. While saying mantra I picked up his body and
placed it gently off the road, in sight of his pond.
Got back into the car and drove on.
Within five minutes the turtle spirit appeared before
my heart and hovered a blessing, a shining snapping
turtle angel.
So, if you want to save a turtle, put on your emergency
flashers, be safe, aware of traffic and open to the
wonders beyond. You will be thanked.
