"A revelatory primer on what it means to be human and a mind-opening manual of initiation into the central mystery of existence, by "perhaps the foremost interpreter of Eastern disciplines for the contemporary West"..."
Time to pull it out, dust it off and re-read.

I know this is not a "Bible" board but a quote from it seems apropos to "The Book" you are referencing:
"You do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (James 4:14)
It's hard for a healthy child to understand that concept. I think only those in the last quarter of a long life and the terminally ill young can really understand that reality.
I remember when I was little, it seemed Christmas took years to come around, that school years lasted forever, as did summer vacations.
Now Christmas seems to come around every other month, and my grandchildren who only yesterday were in diapers are now graduating from high school!
I hope (I guess it's called faith) that there is a spiritual afterlife where there is no two tiered justice system, where the evil will pay the price for their wrongdoing and the rest of us experience a spiritual existence of emotional and intellectual fulfillment and unimaginable happiness and love.
