While many of your friends may be celebrating Beltane on May 1st as May Day, the actual Beltane festival is one of the “cross-quarter” days – the midpoint between the Equinoxes and Solstices.
In modern Paganism the Beltane festival is frequently celebrated on May 1st to more conveniently tie in with May Day celebrations (ie. RCC papal Gregorian calendar), but the actual Beltane takes place around May 5th-6th.
Just count the days between March equinox and Solsitice and divide it by two (cross-quarter) to find the actual date is May 5th-6th...that is if you are going to observe it on the actual date...if not proceed on following the RCC papal Gregorian calendar n'stuff as most RCC pagans do.
(in the southern hemisphere it will be the season of Samhain)
