Subject: Prayers for Petra |

I don't know Petra from outside the boards, but I
saw on the fire map this morning that Glen Ellen was
engulfed, and I know that she lives nearby.
I have been away because of the direction in
politics, and because I was astounded by some of the
things posters were putting forth. I considered some
of them worthy of high praise in the past.
I will continue to stay away, but I always felt,
like many that Don and Petra were a bright spot on
the boards. I enjoyed the intellectual changes some
times, and I appreciated their wisdom.
I was very disheartened when Don had to leave.
Petra tried sp speak to the masses, but she of
course, had her own life to lead with all of the
responsibilities.
I just wanted to post, maybe for the last time here,
that I realize she is facing an unexpected natural
disaster. I want her to know that we care, and we
hope that she is ok.
So back to my life, which has gotten very, very busy
these days. Life abhors a vacuum, I suppose.
However, I did want to ask for prayers for Petra,
here, because many of you folks know her and also
her close friendship with Jim Berkland, Roger and
everyone else.
I hope she is ok, and her personal effects are
untouched. I hope she is ok.

thanks for your post Marc. I've been very worried about Petra too and noticed that her last on quakechasers was in April though there's some P wave maps posted in July of this year on the same website. I know she's close to Lowell Whiteside who has his own site but no way to contact him there. I've searched everywhere to try to figure out where she might be to no avail. I do remember she said that she had fought cancer some time ago. Then Don in Hollister died and that was a huge event in her life. I pray she will read our messages, know that we care so much and respond if she's still alive. So concerned that many of our family here may have passed on without our knowledge. Wish there were some way to know.
I understand your feelings about folks here and the politics therein, the best thing I ever did was to give up reading National board which gave me a lot of peace to get away from politics that is just a never ending fight of opinions even though I have very strong opinions myself but seeking serenity is a new art form I've come to love lately!

thanks so much for letting us know dear one....prayers going out for her and big hugs to you too!....so many challenges for everyone now, personal and global, one has to chose what they can deal with or want to deal
with and focus on what they can change....:-)

I seem to recall Petra saying she was going to travel, like Italy or somewhere. ?? couple months ago. prayers, yes.

The very best to Petra...nice to see you here as well.
A few people here have either family or friends that
are in the area as well...so much loss and our hearts
are open to all.

Hi Marc,
Thank you for such a nice post to raise awareness of our EB Family. The
impact from these fires will affect us all in one way or another. Don and
Petra plus many others whose wisdom and expertise is very needed and
missed. Where did 22 Fires come from without Lightning? Arson?
Probably many of us know someone in these areas. Our friend was called
when the fire was 1 mile away from his home in Marysville. He had to
round up his horses into a trailer gather his dogs and belongings and
leave. So far his home is still standing but he cannot go back yet.
I'd never been to Santa Rosa until 2 weeks ago I went with a friend who
was picking up a puppy there. The home was located in an area that
burned to the ground this week. I've been praying for that family and yes
it haunts me. The losses of Life and property are staggering. These are
people with losses so raw none of us can fathom the shock and pain
they're in. Their pain will soon be ours as nothing is a vacuum or separate.
We are ONE: fellow Californians, fellow Human Beings. Politics, Race or
Religion isn't a factor here and we need to pull together!
I hope this is not your last post here Marc. Do not let petty issues stop you
and your knowledge from shining. You are better than that and these
times require all of us to come together. It's good to see you here. I'm
adding Petra to my prayer list and thank you for telling us.

Jody: I whole heartedly agree with you - the losses
these areas are experiencing are absolutely heart and
gut wrenching and so overwhelming - I cannot imagine
what the people who are going through this are
feeling....
I have some good friends in the immediate fire area
- I am unable to get ahold of them - and I keep
looking at the CA fire map and the two fire on Hwy 12
have surrounded my friends homes....it looks like they
are still untouched, but at the rate things are going
and progressing, I do not know for how long.
I just keep praying because at this point that is
about all I can do.

Hi LT!
Thank you for your post. I've never seen anything like this in CA. Your
friends may not be allowed to go back home yet. The winds are picking up
and Saturday will be windy which is very bad for the fires so keep praying
as that's a powerful tool in helping anyone at a distance.
Focus on "PEACE" for the mind, body and spirit of all those in the fire areas
including the fire fighters.... so sad.

I hope I am wrong, but I saw an Instagram post that Petra
Challus passed away on July 25, 2017. I am hoping it is a
different person, but I feel this might be her. Since 2009 I
have truly enjoyed her emails and comments here on the
boards....It is so unlike her to be gone for this long,
especially with the fires and disasters that have taken
place over the last few months. I do not have contact with
any of her family, but I believe she had a daughter Jen and
that is who posted this information. I am truly very sad to
hear this and would be over-joyed if it isn't her. Mr. Bopp
do you have any information on Petra and if this might be
her.

Unfortunately this is our beloved Petra. I found an old
blog of hers which stated her birthday was January 7th. Her
daughter posted that she lived January 7th, 1947 to July
25th, 2017. My heart aches and my prayers are for all who
loved and admired her.
