from spaceweather.com:

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH (G2): At least one CME is heading for Earth following a
series of solar flares on July 27th (described below). Forecast models are still
preliminary, in part because multiple CMEs have emerged and must be untangled for
proper modeling. NOAA forecasters are predicting a G2-class geomagnetic storm on
July 30th when the first of the storm clouds arrive.

July 28, 2024 @ 02:45 UTC (UPDATED)
Just about as close to an X-Flare as you can get. An M9.9 event was detected around AR 3766 at 01:57 UTC (July 28). A type II radio
emission with an estimated velocity of 943 km/s was recorded. A wave of plasma is visible meaning an Earth directed coronal mass
ejection (CME) will be possible with this event. More to follow.

UPDATE: The M9.9 solar flare observed around AR 3766 did produce a fairly slow moving halo CME that appears Earth directed. A
passage past Earth will be possible within 72 hours. At least one other CME from the flurry of eruptions the past few days is also
expected to pass our planet and is predicted to contribute to moderate (G2) geomagnetic storming.
