Last super moon of 2023, the Harvest Moon, to rise at end of this week: What to know Marina Johnson -Detroit Free Press
When is the full moon? September’s full moon, also known as the Harvest Moon, will be visible in the sky on Thursday night shortly after sunset. According to Old Farmer’s Almanac, the moon will hit its peak at 5:58 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. It is also the last supermoon of the year.
What is a supermoon? A supermoon occurs when a full moon's orbit is closest to the Earth, according to NASA. Because the moon travels the Earth in an ellipse, an oval-like shape, it moves closer and farther from the planet as it travels.
The point where the moon is furthest from the Earth is called the apogee, where the moon is 253,000 miles from Earth on average. The closest point is called the perigee, with the moon around 226,000 miles from Earth.
Supermoons occur four times a year when the moon is closest to the Earth. They often appear both larger and brighter than a regular full moon, but only slightly.
This year, the four supermoons occurred consecutively with the first taking place on July 3 and the last taking place on Sept. 29.
Why is it called the Harvest Moon? The Harvest Moon is the full moon taking place closest to the fall equinox. While September’s full moon is typically the Harvest Moon, if October’s full moon occurs closer to the equinox, typically taking place around Sept. 22-23, it takes on the name.
The Harvest Moon is unlike other full moons as it rises around sunset for several nights in a row. According to Old Farmer’s Almanac, this allows farmers extra time to finish harvesting crops before fall frost arrives.
If the October full moon takes the Harvest Moon title, September’s full moon is then recognized as the Corn Moon. Other alternative names include Autumn Moon, Falling Leaves Moon, and Leaves Turning Moon.

So the correct terminology is: "perigee syzygy" and astronomers absolutely hate and abhor whenever "Super Moon" is used, simply because the author of it is an astrologer of all people. But the biggest main concern of this celestial event, are all the augmented signs, signals and geopathic symptoms that are associated with it. Definitely a heads up week.

Astrology which is not reflective of real time sky constellations nor did it even proceed with the equinox. Even so regardless of where whomever coined the word "supermoon" it's core meaning is about perigee. Yes there are energies with alignments I feel them no matter whatever astrologer (which I don't believe in) states is so and so. I think of it as a type of nickname myself.
Regardless, the word supermoon is okay with NASA astronomers as a term for the perigee moon so they have most likely spread the term as acceptable to others who author mainstream articles like the one posted. Eventually this is how words change and meanings are superimposed. Just because someone coined the term is an astrologer it is still a reference to an astronomical event and this is how word meanings in terms of etymology over the ages so deal with it. In time the one who coined the word will be forgotten as time and chance happen to all. If you have issues with how this is happening and want to try to change it I doubt that is going to happen but maybe your astrology guru who coined the phrase could sue over it and you play a supporting as a fashionable doomgasmic witness in the courtroom drama.
EXCERPT:
"Supermoon" is actually just a nickname for what astronomers call a perigean full moon – a moon that is full and at its closest point in its orbit around Earth.
