X-FLARE! Earth-orbiting satellites have just detected an X1-class solar flare (Oct. 2nd @ 2025 UT). Ironically, it did not come from big dangerous sunspot AR3112, described below, but rather from AR3110, a smaller and apparently less threatening active region. The flare (image) produced a shortwave radio blackout over the Pacific Ocean and parts of North America (blackout map), and it may have hurled a CME into space. |

Ho boy did ever feel that one! Sound asleep from nap, suddenly woke up, went to the computer to see if the sun was doing what I figured it would do. Above is the jpg of the D region that I saw before coming here! It hit right over the West so no wonder I felt it. Phew, take care, methinks the CME might be partially earth directed too! |

sure did up the protons, electrons in jig time! Me? I have too much energy, not sure what to do other than get outside and garden. :) No updated images if the CME that accompanied that flare yet. |
