"Andromeda galaxy actual size? Yes. This image truly depicts what the night
sky would look like if the Andromeda galaxy – the galaxy next door – were
brighter. Original background shot of the moon by Stephen Rahn.
Andromeda galaxy image via NASA. Composite photo by Tom Buckley-
Houston. The composite showed up on Reddit a few years ago. Not
convinced? Here’s a similar image via APOD. As the Andromeda-Milky Way
merger continues, the Andromeda galaxy will appear bigger – and bigger –
in our sky.

Milky Way and Andromeda merger has begun

The Andromeda galaxy, the nearest spiral galaxy to our Milky Way, isn’t
noticeable in our night sky, unless you look for it. Under dark skies, however,
you can see it without optical aid, but only as a barely visible fuzzy patch of
light. But one day, far in the future, Andromeda will be bright in our sky,
growing larger and larger … as it gets closer and closer to us. And even
though the two galaxies are still 2.5 million light-years apart, the eventual
merger of our two galaxies has, in fact, already begun."

...to see Sirius through a really high-quality scope, you
won't want to miss that... The word lightshow doesn't begin
to describe what goes on there. ;)

Link above to a brief YouTube glimpse someone recorded,
although when I saw it, it wasn't quite like this but much
more dramatic, not only a fast strobing of many colors but
those colors of light shooting out in all directions...

Never saw anything like it, doubt I will again... ;)

Awesome! I suspect the visual effects are distortions from the earth's
atmosphere . Here's a Hubble image of Sirius.
