I've been doing some work with the archives of the original Earthwaves forum, before I changed to the new software.
Out of curiosity I looked for my first post there, and by sheer coincidence I see it was 18 years ago to the day, today!!!
It wasn't long after that when I also started posting here on Earthboppin.
Petra was the one to invite me over, who was already talking about my Earthquake Dart Board quake predictions. I was posting about it on the usenet group sci.geo.earthquakes, where I started in 1999. (oh, the glory days of usenet!!!)
Time sure has gone by.
Anyway, another little statistic, the first post on Earthwaves by Canie, the moderator/owner before me, was on September 24, 1999.
So Earthwaves is going into it's 25th year!!!
I found all this out as I am currently working to get the old posts back online again. I had intended for them to stay available when I switched to new forum software, but a technical glitch was found by spam bots which began trying unsuccessfully to post on the old forum. I had to remove the messages because it was causing havoc on my web host's servers. But I have multiple copies of all the data safely archived.
I have ever since intended to fix that and get the posts back online. But life got in the way and sadly it's been almost ten years.
However, I've now started fixing the posts so the spam bots can't try to reply or post to them anymore. This involves removing from each message's HTML file the relevant code for posting messages/replies.
The body of the message is being left totally intact.
It's not online yet as there's still some work cleaning things up and making sure it's all working right. It is, after all, nearly 40,000 messages!!!!
