I don't know if I should add the earthquake to Taiwan
on October 24 with M6.4. It should be in the interval
of + -72 hours.

Richter;

If you predict a 4.5+ and a 6.0 happens, that's not skill, that's just dumb luck.

Moreover it's a bad idea because people will not be prepared for a 6.0 and will suffer greater loss of life and property as a result.

Richter;

So what? Your prediction was 4.5++ so almost anything would fit.

That's useless as a prediction. People would expect a small one, take no precautions and die as a result.

Agreed. 4.5+ always is not the best choice.

To be honest, I think this just shows a gross misunderstanding
of how earthquakes work. A misunderstanding of statistics.

Predicting a 4.5+ in an area that gets them all the time,
or in an area experiencing aftershocks, is pointless. Sure,
you might get the hit, but it's meaningless. It's like
predicting the Sun will rise tomorrow. The odds are
already high that it's going to happen so predicting it
has little value.

Predicting a 7.0+ in areas that don't get those magnitudes
very often, now that would have value, and meaning. The
odds are very low so the payoff is bigger.

If he's going to go with M4.5+, then that matches the
predictions of my Earthquake Dartboard program years
ago.

For Richter's benefit, I successfully predicted 92% of the
world's earthquakes that were magnitude 4.5 or greater
during a period of about two years.

To put it another way, I successfully predicted 17,450 earthquakes.

17,450!!!

NO ONE has even come close to that number.

(wink wink)

Location and time are hits. But you missed on magnitude.

You predicted M4.0 to M5.0 an the quake was larger at M5.9
which is outside your predicted range.

You got a quake bigger than you predicted. So you missed.

Be careful how you state your predictions.
